Schwab’s Custody, Asset Services, Settlements and Transfer of Assets (CAST) organization is seeking results-oriented and hardworking Software Engineer who shares our passion in delivering innovative technology solutions to meet business needs.

CAST is part of the Cash & Stock Solutions (CSS) Technology group which provides Move Money, Asset Servicing, Enterprise Billing & Fees and other Core Brokerage business capabilities to Schwab’s Retail and Institutional businesses. Team has a significant portion of its technology assets based on legacy mainframe technology and has started transitioning its Transfer of Assets and Corporate Actions capabilities to a modern, distributed set of applications.

Successful candidate will have experience coding Mainframe applications with exposure to Distributed technology, enjoys sharing knowledge and assisting peers move from a legacy Mainframe infrastructure to the distributed world.

What youre good at

Acquire deep domain/functional knowledge of our core capabilities area and the systems we have in place to support the business needs.

Provide hands-on development assistance and mentoring on legacy architecture, design patterns, coding standard methodologies as necessary for other members of the legacy development team and help your team members’ achieve client and business goals. Utilize design and development experience in legacy systems functionality and help in crafting and migrating such functionality to distributed systems.

Be responsible for the quality delivery of your portion of the software backlog, end to end. Utilize automated software test tools and frameworks as necessary to achieve quality standards Identify technology risks early and establish mitigation plans Demonstrate, practice and support Agile software development practices.

What you have
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • 8+ years of development experience in the legacy space
  • Hands on, expert level skills in design, development, testing and mentoring with CICS, Cobol, JCL, EasyTrieve, DB2, Stored Procedures, MVS/ z/OS, Xpediter, BMC tools, SYNCSORT utility, mainframe based Web services, NDM, FTP/IP, MQ
  • Familiarity with continuous delivery/continuous integration techniques and agile software development.
  • Exposure to Object Oriented Programming using C#, Java is a plus.
  • Exposure to Visual Studio, Web API, .NET Framework, Web Services, REST, JSON, SOAP, LINQ is a plus
  • Developing/leading REST and SOAP-based Web Service API(s) in a transaction processing environment is a plus.
  • NoSQL databases like MongoDB/Redis & Relational database like SQL & DB2 is a plus.
  • Experience in messaging technologies like RabbitMQ and IBM MQ is a plus
  • Ambitious, driven, and hardworking in resolving complex and time-sensitive business problems through simple and innovative technical solutions. Must demonstrate a knack to determining solutions to complex problems.
  • Passionate about technical mentoring of junior staff and peers.
  • Prior experience in financial services industry with knowledge of Broker/Dealer functions is a significant plus.
