Quality and Data Governance Associate Director
Data cannot be managed well without metadata. This position within the quality and data governance team will be empowered to provide leadership and management of key activities related to metadata management for our Energy and Natural Resources business unit.

Your efforts will help:
  • Increase confidence in data by providing context and enabling the measurement of data quality
  • Improve operational efficiency by identifying redundant data and processes
  • Reduce data-oriented research time
  • Improve communication between data consumers and IT professionals
  • Create accurate impact analysis thus reducing the risk of project failure
  • Improve time-to-market by reducing system development life-cycle time

Your role will be to undertake and lead tasks to:
  • Become the subject matter expert with our metadata management software and lead implementation efforts
  • Develop guidelines and conventions for the contents, display, construction, testing, maintenance, and management of an English-based business glossary
  • Develop a set of recommendations based on preferred techniques and procedures with a primary purpose on achieving consistency in the description of content objects and to facilitate retrieval
  • Document and manage organizational knowledge of data-related business terminology
  • Ensure metadata quality, consistency, currency, and security
  • Help colleagues write and disambiguate definitions for business glossary terms
  • Work to resolve term inconsistencies between teams
  • Create statistics and reports on metadata implementation, utilization, and adoption to make improvements
  • Train and aid colleagues in fully leveraging metadata system capabilities


Your role will involve helping teams document:
  • Definitions and descriptions of data sets, tables, and columns
  • Business rules, transformation rules, calculations, and derivations
  • Data lineage
  • Data standards
  • Valid value constraints
  • Stakeholder contact information (e.g. data stewards)
  • Security/privacy level of data


Education & Experience:
  • Industry experience or University degree (Bachelors or equivalent) in Business Administration, Operations Management, Quality, Computer Sciences, or related fields
  • Typically requires 7+ years industry related experience
  • Direct involvement with data quality, reference data, master data, and/or metadata
  • Familiarity with the Data Management International (DAMA.org) body of knowledge
  • CDMP certification a plus
  • Collibra data governance platform
  • Lean, Lean Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Energy industry exposure
  • Data lineage and impact analysis
  • Confluence or similar wiki system
  • Specialized depth and breadth of editing and content management expertise with deep technical knowledge
  • Advanced skills in editing
  • Excellent standard of written and spoken English
  • Business glossary management, technical writing experience
  • Business experience in developing solutions for identified internal and or external business challenges related to data governance and quality
  • Demonstrated people leadership and management of multidisciplinary teams
  • Comprehensive understand of metadata management best practices
  • Interpersonal skills and capability to communicate complex concepts
  • Impact and drive for the achievement of customer, operational, and service objectives
  • Proficient in use of MS office applications including Power BI
