Operations Analysis Specialist
The IHS Markit Index business provides industry leading indices to the sell side, buy side and ETF providers. Current indices span various asset classes including bonds, loans, credit, equity and structured products. IHS Markit is one of the largest providers of fixed income indices for ETFs internationally, with the largest and most widely traded corporate credit ETFs globally referencing our indices. Currently there is over $130 billion in ETF AUM referencing IHS Markit's iBoxx bond indices. In addition, over $5 trillion in OTC derivative notional is currently linked to IHS Markit's tradable indices such as CDX and iTraxx, with approximately $25 trillion of derivative notional traded in 2020.

Markit Indices Corporate Actions team is responsible for corporate actions validation operations, customer support, vendor management, quality control, and strategic support for new product initiatives.

The team monitors domestic and international corporate actions announcements and conducts a stringent cleansing process. Corporate actions information is received from vendor feeds and the global operations team researches and enriches records to produce single validated 'master' corporate actions records for downstream customers.

The successful candidate will form part of the Markit Indices Corporate Actions team in Dallas, reporting to the Corporate Actions manager. They will play a key part in maintaining the smooth running of the day-to-day operations and working closely with other functions and understanding products that have upstream and downstream linkages to the Corporate Actions product.

Corporate Actions analysts are responsible for ensuring that the state of each mastered record clearly defines the terms of each corporate action, including critical dates and times for accurate application to indices.

Key functions include managing quality control, designing data integrity checks, reviewing productivity and SLA metrics, vendor management, technology innovation and driving change management initiatives.

  • Review daily exception reports; research and resolve exceptions and contribute time and effort to develop/modify procedures and controls
  • Client (internal and external) support for data
  • Review the terms and conditions of international corporate actions (e.g., spin-offs, mergers & acquisitions, reverse/forward splits, cash dividends, capital distributions, bonus issues, rights offerings)
  • Conduct research leveraging various sources, including prospectuses, data vendor interfaces, stock exchanges and bulletins, internet search engines and websites to successfully validate corporate action information
  • Identify options for potential solutions including assessment of technical and business suitability
  • Conduct data analysis, draw conclusions and present to management
  • Customization of data feeds, managing data processing; from data collection and remediation, through data transformation to data distribution
  • Defining business requirements, functional specifications, process mapping and gap analysis
  • Able to work with QA and Development Team to ensure implementation meets design and requirements

Education and experience
  • University graduate or equivalent, preferably in computer science, finance or a related capital markets discipline.
  • 1-3 years' experience in similar industry a plus
  • Strong research skills and data mining experience required
  • Ability to work independently and creatively with on-shore and off-shore teams or project teams
  • Functional and back-end familiarity with complementary financial data vendor software and databases such as - Bloomberg, IDC/ICE, FactSet, Thomson Reuters' financial products
  • Ideally an understanding of financial markets or alternatively demonstrates a strong interest in the mechanics of financial markets
  • Keen following of current global financial news
  • SQL, Python and VBA programming a plus
  • Understanding and experience with workflow and rules engine-based solutions
  • Highly organized and analytical thinker
  • Very good eye for detail - and a careful and methodical approach to work
  • Good problem solver
  • Reliable - can be relied on to undertake defined duties on a consistent basis and to agreed deadlines
