Job Description: The Research group at Dimensional is integral in providing an outstanding investment experience to our clients. The team produces high-quality, thought-leadership research on investments and financial markets that is of interest to and helps educate clients. Research is also involved in the design and development of the firms investment approach and the application of that approach through portfolio management and trading. Investment Analytics & Data (IAD) is part of the Research department within Dimensional. Data and data analysis are at the underpinnings of how Dimensional constructs and manages portfolios and works to provide the best investment experience possible for our clients. IAD is responsible for ownership of investment data, which means managing data from acquisition through distribution, driving analysis to create information from data, and creating the information and analysis consumed by internal and external reports. IAD is a hub group touching numerous areas of the implementation of the investments process and interacting with most other departments within Dimensional.

Our team seeks intellectual and creative analysts and associates capable of supporting key initiatives spanning Research and other investment and client service teams across Dimensional. The work is team based and involves working with essential systems and processes to improve operational efficiencies, running empirical analysis on a broad scope of investment topics, maintaining data sets and tools key to portfolio decision making, and performing and explaining ad hoc analysis. Success in the role will mean learning both the broad principles of Dimensionals investment philosophy and the nuanced application of those principles in our investment process, as well as successfully maintaining and improving the operational processes that drive Dimensionals investments.

Currently we have multiple opportunities available at a variety of levels in both our Austin and Charlotte offices.

  • Use your intellect, quantitative reasoning, and computational skills to identify and solve the various issues that arise in a fast-paced environment, working simultaneously on numerous individual projects and team-based initiatives.
  • Partner with teams across the organization to define requirements and develop new processes.
  • Contribute to ongoing efficiency efforts through automation, process design, and implementation.
  • Create and distribute regular investment reports.
  • Compile and manage large data sets from multiple sources.
  • Execute regular validations to ensure inputs to research, portfolio management, and client reporting are appropriate and accurate.
  • Interface with investment and client service teams to answer internal and client questions.

  • Bachelors degree required; degree in Finance/Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering or similar disciplines preferred. Demonstrate a capacity for and interest in quantitative work.
  • 3.2 GPA minimum, 3.5 GPA or higher preferred.
  • At least 1 year of full-time work experience. Candidates must have completed a minimum of a bachelors degree prior to December 2019.
  • Intellectual curiosity combined with attention to detail.
  • Experience working with large data sets.
  • Knowledge of databases and query language (e.g., T-SQL, other SQL variant) is strongly considered, as pulling data from databases and performing analysis are major components of the job.
  • Programming skills (e.g., C#, Python, R, Stata, Java) are strongly considered.
  • Outstanding logic, analysis, and problem-solving skills combined with an ability to see the big picture while remaining detail focused.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are preferred.
