Vice President, Senior Analyst, State Rating Team

Location: New York, NY, USA

Key Responsibilities:

The Vice President -Senior Analyst (VP-SA) will be part of Moody's State Ratings Team, which is responsible for credit analysis, research and ratings for US state governments, state-related entities, and public transit entities. The VP-SA will be directly responsible for a significant portfolio of high profile state and transit credits.

This is a challenging role where you will be responsible for providing timely and insightful credit analysis, publishing in-depth research presenting analytical and thought leadership on a range of state credit-related topics, ensuring credit rating accuracy, and representing the company and sector through investor outreach efforts. This opportunity involves developing in-depth knowledge of the assigned sectors, working with other teams across Moody's, and writing persuasive and thought-leading research. As part of the rating process, you will interact extensively with investors, intermediaries, and issuers.

  • Conduct initial and on-going credit analysis for a dedicated portfolio of state government, state-related entities, and public mass transit entities.
  • Develop and present in-depth fundamental credit analysis to rating committees and other internal analytical meetings to assign and maintain credit ratings.
  • Write clear, data-driven, and persuasive research on sector trends and credit-related issues
  • Participate in regular outreach events such as investor briefings, teleconferences, conference speaking participations and other industry events.
  • Maintain relationships with high-profile issuer clients, investors and intermediaries, with frequent interaction with investors and intermediaries.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Seven to 10 years of credit analysis and management, or related risk management experience, particularly in the public finance sector.
  • Strong academic background, including a graduate degree in business, finance, law, public policy or public administration.
  • Strong quantitative aptitude, proven analytical skills, and up-to-date IT competencies including advanced Excel and PowerPoint proficiency.
  • Communicate effectively and persuasively, conveying insight with transparency in both speech and writing
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships at all levels and represent the Moody's brand effectively at a senior level.
  • Engage in team work with a positive and constructive attitude; strong leadership capabilities.
  • Highly organized and efficient; act with diligence, sense of urgency, efficiency, responsibility, and ownership.
