About this role

Business Unit Overview:

BlackRock Finance consists of Finance professionals in disciplines such as Accounting Policy, Tax, Business Finance, Treasury, Accounting Operations and Corporate Accounting. Within the Controllers' Group, the Accounting Policy team plays a key role in implementing new accounting standards and partnering with other groups analyzing financial transactions and ensuring they are properly accounted for in BlackRock's financial statements.

Job Purpose/Background:

The individual will assist the Managing Director and Director of Accounting Policy in the U.S. researching and documenting technical accounting queries and related conclusions across a broad spectrum of topics. The Accounting Policy Accountant will also develop strong relationships with other parts of Finance and external auditors and build relationships with cross functional teams to enhance working relationships and ensure sound accounting conclusions.

The role will report into the Managing Director of Accounting Policy while also working under the supervision of the Director of Accounting Policy in the U.S.

Key Responsibilities:

The candidate should be technically proficient in the following areas of U.S. GAAP:

  • Revenue recognition

  • Business and asset acquisitions / Goodwill and intangibles impairment

  • Consolidations

  • Lease

  • Financial Instruments

  • Stock Compensation

  • Foreign currency matters

  • Fair value measurement

  • Segment reporting

  • Derivatives

  • SEC reporting and disclosure requirements for the above areas


Development Value:

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Solid background in the ability to research technical issues and formulate accounting conclusions

  • Working knowledge of the Asset Management Industry and Investment Companies is a plus

  • Knowledge of IFRS is a plus


Skills/Qualifications:

  • CPA is required. Knowledge of excel, word, power point strongly preferred


Competencies:

  • Ability to clearly and confidently communicate in verbal and written form, with all levels of the business with strong interpersonal skills

  • Self-starter, quick learner, team player, with an ability to adjust to change and the desire to take on responsibility is required

  • Organized and methodical, possessing attention to detail, ability to work under pressure within tight deadlines is a must
