In Strategic Planning you will learn our business overall by working with senior management to envision our future, set the direction, and make it happen. You’ll experience most business functions of our operation, including team growth, working with our institutional partners, and finding and evaluating new opportunities. Whether you become an executive at Spark, work as a specialist in one of the areas you try, or blaze your own trail in some other venture, you can lean on the multifaceted experience we offer immediately.
Strategic Planning’s primary responsibility is to direct our growth. You will grow our elite staff because a great business first and foremost requires great people. You will be one of the public faces of our firm, whether interfacing with outside partners or finding the exceptional people who can bring Spark into a thriving second generation. Strategic Planning is a broad role with unbounded impact and influence that requires constant learning as well as the ability to quickly develop expertise. Whether you’re talking with an astrophysics PhD, the debate champion, or someone working on the latest AI theory, you will always need to bring your intelligence as well as your ability to dive in to new areas. You may also receive training in areas where you have interest but lack experience such as meeting investors, handling Wall Street negotiations, sourcing private investments, or legal documentation.
You’ll be intellectually and financially rewarded for developing your ability to bring together a team of people who can create great ideas and bring them to fruition. In academia, technology, and entrepreneurship, the most important skill is putting together the right team. The experience you get during the initial commitment in Strategic Planning can lead you to become a senior officer at our established firm, develop expertise in the functions you prefer, or build a career in any area you choose.
Intelligence is paramount in this elite role. We will consider exceptional candidates from a variety of backgrounds. As much as your intellectual agility, other skills like your ability to listen, glean information from an interview, and synthesize it to make accurate conclusions are also crucial – not much of the work of Strategic Planning can be conducted through research of the written word. This role requires using skilled listening and comprehension to your advantage and accurately evaluating what individuals or opportunities might offer from a single conversation.
For PhDs, your success in a top program has honed the intellectual firepower and excellent communication skills we require. For newer graduates, this role allows you to interview and interface with people of varied backgrounds that might otherwise be inaccessible to you from Wall Street executives to eminent academics. This inside view into different fields may guide you in determining your future path or field of advanced study. This position is also suitable for the candidate with the ultimate objective of being a C-level executive or business unit head. The Strategic Planning Associate will work closely with all of our President, Chief Compliance Officer, and Strategic Planning Director to gain broad working access to our business from the start.
If you like connecting with people different from you and you’d be intrigued by the challenge of putting together a team of brilliant individuals to use machine learning to enhance the diagnostic efficacy of MRI or to solve the problem of algae overgrowth in the Great Lakes, send us your resume. Your projects as Strategic Planning Associate are just as stimulating, your work more lucrative, and your goals more concrete, so long as you have exceptional intelligence, the desire for success, and the ability to interact with those who have achieved eminence in a broad range of fields.
To stand out amongst many highly qualified candidates, you may want to submit a custom cover letter detailing your two greatest intellectual accomplishments and what stood out about them to you. When you submit your resume, please include your GPAs and standardized test scores. Anything you send in may be used by Spark for any purpose, so PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE ANYTHING THAT IS PROPRIETARY TO ANY PERSON.
