Sales Coordinator
The Journal of Commerce, a part of the Maritime & Trade division of IHS Markit that produces data-based information, analysis, and events covering the global supply chain, is seeking a sales coordinator for its JOC Engage product. The successful candidate will show a demonstrable ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders that results in increasing sales of JOC Engage, a high-level subscription-based information product that includes subscription to JOC.com, the bi-weekly Journal of Commerce magazine, the JOC Quarterly Intelligence Report, peer-to-peer networking, and discount pricing to JOC Events, including the flagship TPM Conference. Each component is based on or led by the JOC's industry-leading editorial/journalist team covering the international containerized supply chain, from factory floor to end-consumer. The sales coordinator will work closely with the JOC Shipper Engagement Manager to showcase JOC Engage's value and build a new and sustainable customer base.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for selling subscriptions to JOC Engage product
  • Responsible for generating new business and renewing existing business to contribute to overall revenue growth for the company
  • Develop/implement a clear strategy to exceed quota
  • Achieve specific monthly, quarterly, and annual sales quota
  • Prepare and submit accurate monthly/quarterly sales reporting and forecasting
  • Establish customer relationships. Travel to JOC and outside events and visit customers and prospects on a consistent basis
  • Generate new business by building and maintaining sales pipelines
  • Coordinate customer outreach and meetings among multiple team members who have touch points
  • Consult with customers to maximize value and improve customer satisfaction
  • Provide all contracts in a timely manner and follow up with customers if additional information is needed for execution of contracts.
  • Provide excellent customer service to existing and potential customers and respond quickly to questions that may arise
  • Actively participate in weekly Editorial, JOC Engage, and other internal meetings to update teams on progress
  • Enter all proposals and orders into Salesforce daily to show booked orders and an updated sales pipeline
  • Update accounts daily in Salesforce with email/phone conversation notes and current contact


Key attributes:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent communication, organizational, negotiation, and closing skills with a strategic and consultative approach
  • 2+ years in a commercial sales role, handling strategic accounts, preferably within the B2B market and/or within the maritime/supply chain transportation industry
  • Demonstrated success in closing large, complex sales involving multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated negotiation and relationship-building skills
  • Proficient in Salesforce, Teams, Excel, and other apps, and able to quickly learn new technologies
  • Ability to consult with customers to assess marketing needs and provide proposals that provide a clear ROI
  • High energy, self-motivated, able to work as part of a team
  • Take responsibility for own work, proactive and not afraid to take on new challenges
