Research Associate/VP – Packaged Food Group, Equity Research

  • Draft research reports including, alerts, company updates, industry notes and initiations
  • Maintaining, updating and analyzing large databases (commodities, valuation comps, product pricing etc.) including but not limited to scanner data from AC Nielsen
  • Maintaining and updating financial models, performing due diligence and writing research reports
  • Candidates should have a strong interest in working in the securities industry
  • Closely monitoring food industry news and trends
  • Interacting with company management teams, internal corporate constituencies (e.g., sales and trading), and buy-side clients
  • Conducting proprietary research covering the food industry, including but not limited to developing a proprietary contact network within the industry, attending industry conferences and summarizing findings

Our NYC-based team consists of a lead analyst and an experienced associate and is looking to add another senior-level associate / VP. Stock coverage currently includes 20 companies in the packaged food industry. We are looking for a candidate who has strong written and oral communication skills, can work independently without much direction and likes to take on significant responsibility. Associates on our team enjoy the same exposure as the senior analyst. The team's daily schedule is dependent on particular assignments and quarterly reporting periods, but generally ranges around 12 hrs/day and may include working on weekends.

Analyst Bio: Akshay Jagdale, is a Managing Director and equity research analyst covering the packaged food/agribusiness sector and joined Jefferies in September 2015. Prior to joining Jefferies, Akshay spent seven years leading the Keybanc Capital Markets Food/Beverage research effort where he was a top ranked analyst. Akshay has been an equity analyst for ~13 years with a focus on the Food/Beverage sector. He graduated from Rutgers University with a BS in Economics. Akshay was a top ranked Division 1 tennis player and the captain of the Rutgers Tennis team.

Qualifications


  • Intellectually curious, extremely hard-working and outgoing
  • Strong writing skills and ideally a passion for writing
  • Strong listening, verbal, written communication, and organization skills are required
  • Ability to work independently without much direction
  • Candidate must be a self-starter, detail-oriented, and comfortable initiating contact and interacting with research sources
  • Experience in Equity Research and/or Investment Banking preferred; experience covering a Consumer sector preferred but not required
  • Series 7, 63, 86, & 87 completed ideally
  • Must be a strong team player
  • Must be willing to work long hours as required by specific time-sensitive projects, including working on weekends
