The Career Opportunity:
S&P Global Market Intelligence is seeking a Quantitative Data Specialist with a focus on Private Markets to join the New Product Development and Research Team. The successful hire will have the technical capabilities to manipulate and wrangle both structured and unstructured data to build prototypes and validate client use cases. This position reports to the Senior Director of Private Markets New Product Development and will sit on the New Product Development and Research team within Company Information Services (CIS) and is part of the Data, Valuation, and Analytics (DVA) organization with S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Successful candidates will have experience and understanding on client workflows, data characterization, and technical skills to test client use cases. In addition, candidates should be able to work well in a team, be highly self-motivated with the ability to execute independently. This position will develop quantitative/analytic models for use case validation and to inform on new product creation. Successful execution may require consultation with clients, practitioners, academics, and resources within or outside the organization. This position will also coordinate with quantitative researchers within the New Product Development and Research Team to build derived, research-inspired products.

The Impact:
The New Product Development and Research team brings industry leading products to market, which enhance client workflows in investment management, investment banking, private markets, commercial banking and insurance, and non-financial corporate and professional services. Ideation is inspired by client conversations, industry conferences, the internal research team, external research publications, new technologies, third-party fintech partners, and more. The Quantitative Data Specialist will coordinate with the Senior Director to prioritize new product and data ideas.

Ideas are nourished through a prototype phase, where the successful hire will execute on specifications provided by a manager. Prototype results inform on the potential product profitability, salability, use cases and ultimately dictate go/no-go criteria. The successful hire will communicate these results to the manager overseeing the project and will answer technical questions. The successful hire will work with team members downstream to facilitate product production and may assist in go-to-market activities or client meetings, particularly from a technical perspective.

The Team:
Members of the S&P Global New Product Development and Research Team are experts in conceiving and building client solutions. Spanning public and private markets, the team leverages data inside the S&P Global data ecosystem and enriches it with new external data to create novel solutions that inform the client workflow. Client use cases span investment management, investment banking, private markets, commercial banking and insurance, and non-financial corporate and professional services. The team operates as part of Company Information Services, which provides data and analytics that enable clients to make important decisions. Team members are well regarded by colleagues throughout the organization and can expect to collaborate with other teams including data science, technology, quantitative analytics, research signals, and others.

Responsibilities:
  • Execute on prototype specifications for new products. Ingest and clean data for use case validation, compare prototype to ground truth, collate results with estimate of product success.
  • Ingest, clean, and analyze data sets from third parties to assess benefits to CIS / DVA business.
  • Present prototype results to the broader team, with ability to document technical concepts to a diverse audience.
  • Conduct hands-on, actionable, innovative hypothesis testing and use results to help senior leadership make vital business decisions.
  • Collaborate with content and data science teams to leverage expertise around new techniques to build and validate new product use cases.
  • Work with sales and go-to-market to provide subject matter expertise on new products. Surface case studies and work with marketing to document product value-add.
  • Provide thought leadership on projects and help identify value for clients.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelors, Masters, or equivalent in Statistics, Physical Sciences, Finance, or Technology required
  • Extensive knowledge of private markets with at least 2 years of experience in a role involving private markets data
  • 3+ years experience conducting empirical research, data validation, or technical modeling
  • 3+ years experience working with big data techniques; Experience with cloud architecture / distributed computing preferred
  • Able to establish credibility with clients and fellow team members around Private Markets/Private Equity related ideas
  • Expertise in statistics, machine learning or data science experience preferred
  • Passion for private markets, client workflow, data wrangling
  • Strong technical and programming skills in SQL and Python
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Intellectual curiosity and inquisitiveness
  • Ability to explain complex investment concepts in simple terms
Compensation/Benefits Information (This section is only applicable to US candidates) :
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $88,400.00 to $175,650.00. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual's geographical location as well as experience and qualifications for the role.
