Principal, Full-Stack Engineer
Markets & Market Risk Technology (MMRT) within CMIST provides technology management and application development for Foreign Exchange (FX), Securities Finance, Global Collateral Management, Liquidity Management, and Fixed Income & Equities businesses.

As a Principal Full-Stack Developer in the Segregation Technology team, he/she will be responsible for developing and maintaining Java/Spring-based microservices and Angular 5/6/9 UI interfaces that drive our platform to meet current and strategic user needs. He/she will work with fellow services and front-end developers to ensure a robust, highly scalable, distributed capability that is fault-tolerant and highly efficient. As a Senior member of the team, you will be expected to drive technology research, adoption, and innovation, to ensure the platform remains current, while providing technical guidance and mentoring to more junior developers. Additionally, in your senior role, you will be contributing to architectural direction, and mapping of business cases to the technical architecture.

Responsibilities:
  • Interface with other technical teams, business, and middle office operations
  • Proactively engaged with business stake holders and as needed suggest changes to business process workflow to increase efficiencies and reduce costs
  • Provide superior software development services in a fast-paced and innovative working environment.
  • Work with internal business groups on implementation opportunities, challenges, and requirements.
  • Analyze information and provide recommendations to address and resolve business and technical issues. Actively participate in team discussions, provide guidance and expert opinion on the subject matter.
  • Coordinate coding, unit testing, implementation, and documentation of solution.
  • Ensure that expected application performance levels are achieved.
  • Comply with BNY Mellon's standard development methodology
  • May allocate/ coordinate work within a team/project.
  • Display passion and show interest in financial trading systems
  • Ability to work in a high performing front office trading environment


Required Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required
  • 10-14 years of experience in software development required
  • Recent 8+ years of strong hands full stack developer experience developing scalable enterprise solutions with latest technologies including Java including Rest APIs, Spring, Spring Boot, UI (Angular 5/6/9/recent versions), databases (Oracle) - and Docker/Containers
  • Previous hands-on experience coding and building enterprise level applications and leading a global team
  • Appreciation for non-functional requirements: performance, scalability, testability
  • Experience with Continuous Deployment/Integration practices including automated unit/integration/regression tests, Jenkins, Maven, etc.
  • Knowledge or use of an IDE, such as Eclipse or IDEA
  • Knowledge of Messaging Queues
  • Knowledge of JIRA, Scrum methodologies and ability to work in a fast paced and rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to learn and pick up new skills
  • Ability to perform with minimal management supervision
  • Strong Communication Skills

Preferred skills and experience:
  • Knowledge of Python and SWIFT is a big plus
  • Knowledge of ISO 20022 is a big plus
  • Experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus.
  • The successful candidate is expected to maintain knowledge of current technology trends and updates to domain, through self-directed research, engagement with technical forums, summits, conferences, or similar activities.


Consults with internal business groups to provide high-level application software development services or technical support. Must have thorough and demonstrative knowledge on or both the user-side frontend of a website, as well as the backend, server-side that powers the user-side. Additional requirements include intermediate understanding of security principles, relational databases and architecture design principles. Provides comprehensive senior-level technical consulting to IT management and senior technical staffs. Evaluates compliance with the organization's technology standards. Programming well-designed, testable, efficient code. Analyze, design and develop tests and test-automation suites. Develop flowcharts, layouts and documentation to satisfy requirements and solutions. Maintain software functionality and currency (technical debt and gain). Actively participate in code reviews. Integrate software components into a fully functional software system. Apply security and privacy principles. Works with internal business groups on implementation opportunities, challenges, and requirements of various applications. Analyzes information and provides recommendations to address and resolve business issues for a specific business group. Guides and consults with IT management and technical staffs regarding use of emerging technologies and associated services. Participates in defining corporate implementation and integration strategies of new technologies. Active learning engagement. Complete all required mandatory training / policy awareness curricula on time. Use learning tools such as Pluralsight to complete both recommended and aspirational targets set in personal development plans. Stays abreast of emerging technologies. Advocates for innovative, creative technology solutions. Mentors junior level engineers. Expertise in using a specific application development toolkit and proficiency of front end and backend development coding languages such as Java, HTML, NodeJS, CSS, JSON, Angular, JavaScript. Must also have proficiency in application frameworks and containerization. Communications and organization skills; team work skills ; possess strong interpersonal skills to support mentoring. Contributes to the achievement of area objectives. Job holder must have understanding interdependencies and business impact of future IT plans. S/he must have prior lead experience selecting and implementing vendor-specific methodologies and prior consulting experience with structured methodologies. Job holder must have broad experience with multi-platform development tools and toolkits..
