Principal, Full-Stack Developer
Clearing, Markets & Issuer Services Technology (CMIST) is responsible for application development and support for critical business systems including Repo Edge (collateral management), Enterprise Payment Hub (multi-currency payment processing), and Broker Dealer Clearance (securities clearing), along with approximately 350 other applications used by the following high-priority business services and their clients.

Markets & Market Risk Technology (MMRT) within CMIST provides technology management and application development for Foreign Exchange (FX), Securities Finance, Global Collateral Management, Liquidity Management, and Fixed Income & Equities businesses. The technology group also supports the company's market risk and counterparty credit risk platforms.

The senior developer will be the BNYM technology lead for the Global Surveillance and Supervision project. He/she will oversee a global team of both BNYM and vendor (AquaQ) development resources working on the platform, providing architectural & development oversight/coordination and also hands on development for this critical platform.

Consults with internal business groups to provide high-level application software development services or technical support. Must have thorough and demonstrative knowledge on or both the user-side frontend of a website, as well as the backend, server-side that powers the user-side. Additional requirements include intermediate understanding of security principles, relational databases and architecture design principles. Provides comprehensive senior-level technical consulting to IT management and senior technical staffs. Evaluates compliance with the organization's technology standards. Programming well-designed, testable, efficient code. Analyze, design and develop tests and test-automation suites. Develop flowcharts, layouts and documentation to satisfy requirements and solutions. Maintain software functionality and currency (technical debt and gain). Actively participate in code reviews. Integrate software components into a fully functional software system. Apply security and privacy principles. Works with internal business groups on implementation opportunities, challenges, and requirements of various applications. Analyzes information and provides recommendations to address and resolve business issues for a specific business group. Guides and consults with IT management and technical staffs regarding use of emerging technologies and associated services. Participates in defining corporate implementation and integration strategies of new technologies. Active learning engagement. Complete all required mandatory training / policy awareness curricula on time. Use learning tools such as Pluralsight to complete both recommended and aspirational targets set in personal development plans. Stays abreast of emerging technologies. Advocates for innovative, creative technology solutions. Mentors junior level engineers Expertise in using a specific application development toolkit and proficiency of front end and backend development coding languages such as Java, HTML, NodeJS, CSS, JSON, Angular, JavaScript. Must also have proficiency in application frameworks and containerization. Communications and organization skills; team work skills ; possess strong interpersonal skills to support mentoring Contributes to the achievement of area objectives.

Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required
  • 10-14 years of experience in software development required
  • 10+ years of strong hands-on full stack development experience with diverse technologies including UI (Angular/React), databases (KDB & Oracle), and Java including RESTFul Webservices, Docker/Containers, etc.
  • Fundamental understanding of RDBMS and database design applications.
  • Previous hands on experience coding and building enterprise level applications and leading a global team
  • Appreciation for non-functional requirements: performance, scalability, testability
  • Experience with Continuous Deployment/Integration practices including automated unit/integration/regression tests, Jenkins, Maven, etc.
  • Previous experience in managing and/or working with vendor resources


Preferred Skills:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, responsive and proactive.
  • Knows how to take the ownership of a system.
  • Trade surveillance technology experience preferred
  • Experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus.
