Morgan Stanley Research is seeking a Data Architect / Data Analyst to join our data team to help build and manage financial databases for the Research department. The candidate will work closely with Research Analysts, technologists and data governance professionals to assist in architecting efficient and scalable data solutions, acquiring, validating and storing external and internally produced data, and building data manipulation processes. The candidate with also work closely with data scientists and quantitative research team to help with data analyses and signal research.

Job Responsibilities
- Architect efficient and scalable data solutions in kdb and python
- Write code to ingest, validate, transform, cross-reference, and maintain financial and alternative data from different internal and external sources.
- Work with external data vendors to learn the data schema, format, and assumptions behind the underlying data before onboarding it to the Research data repository
- Implement data quality checks to proactively monitor incoming data for potential issues.
- Work with Research teams to analyze their data requirements and formulate appropriate data-driven solutions.
- Coordinate with technology teams to design, construct, install, test and maintain data management systems
- Maintain data documentation
- Provide support for clients and internal users of data products

Technical Expectations
- Experience managing large-scale data sets in kdb/q
- Experience with data validation and transformation techniques
- Experience designing and configuring technical architecture to support data management activities
- Knowledge of equity data, including market data such as stocks prices and corporate actions, security cross-referencing, financial data such as income statement, cash flow and balance sheet fundamentals, and alternative data.
- Experience with Python for data analysis and data management activities
- Experience with using data profiling tools to query data, identify anomalies, gaps and issues
- Experience in problem solving and performing root cause analysis on data-related issues
- Experience in data quality management tools/libraries
- General awareness of data management best practices, emerging trends, and challenges

Qualifications:

- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited higher learning institution required or equivalent combination of experience and education
- 5+ years experience as a data analyst, data engineer, data architect or a related role
- 3+ years experience working with kdb databases and q programing language
- 3+ years experience in financial services industry (sell-side, buy-side, or financials services provider), preferably in equities
- Experience with Python for data analysis is a plus
- Strong analytical and reasoning skills; able to decompose complex problems and projects into manageable pieces; comfortable suggesting and presenting solutions
- Comfortable working in a large organization and interfacing with a broad set of stakeholders across various functions (i.e., Business, IT, Operations)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills presenting complex analytical results to both technical and non-technical audiences
