The Finance Division reports to the Chief Financial Officer and consists of some 3,000 employees
worldwide. Finance protects the Morgan Stanley franchise by serving as guardian of the Firm's books and
records, and by contributing to firmwide risk management and risk reduction. This division maintains
relationships with Morgan Stanley's various industry and government regulators, and also serves as the
conduit of financial information to the outside investment community. Finance plays a critical role as
advisor to Morgan Stanley's various businesses and its senior management team.
Background on the Team
The Regulatory Reporting team is responsible for ensuring the firm is in compliance with various regulatory rules and regulations, most notably the SEC Uniform Net Capital Rule. The group is responsible for the monthly preparation and submission of the Financial and Operational Combined Uniform Single Report (FOCUS Report). The Regulatory Reporting group consists of two teams, the 15c3-1 team is mainly responsible for firm activity and the 15c3-3 team is mainly responsible for customer activity. The 15c3-1 group consists of 8 individuals consisting of two Executive Directors, two Vice Presidents, 3 Senior Managers and one Analyst.
The responsibilities of this position include the preparation and analysis of both daily and month-end reporting of net capital, as well as reporting required information to various regulatory agencies.
1. Prepare and analyze the daily & monthly computations of net capital pursuant to SEC Rule 15c3-1/CSE.
2. Prepare haircuts or other regulatory capital deduction schedules to support the computation of net capital.
3. Prepare and analyze reports filed with the SEC, FINRA and other regulatory agencies.
4. Address questions from Business Unit Controllers, regulators and other members of the firm.
The position does not require the individual to supervise others, however, the individual must work with other members of the Regulatory Reporting team, as well as individuals of various departments within the firm. The position does not require specific knowledge of SEC Rule 15c3-1/CSE (Net Capital) and related FINRA Interpretations or FOCUS Reporting, accounting principles of the securities industry or product knowledge - these areas will be developed on the job. However, the individual should possess good communication skills and the ability to work with stringent deadlines. The individual should have the ability to grasp concepts quickly and apply them to their job responsibilities. The individual should have strong Excel skills.
A Bachelors degree in Accounting and knowledge of Bloomberg is preferred, but not required
