What we do:

The Research Publishing team uses innovative and established platforms to disseminate the research of the New York Fed’s economists. The team edits and produces articles, publications and blogs; helps design and maintain the Group’s large data sites and a variety of sophisticated digital communications products.

The Research Digital Publishing Officer has broad oversight for the work of the editorial and the creative services staff and helps set priorities and enhance process efficiencies for the entire team. This strategic leader will establish and maintain relationships with economists and other stakeholders across the Bank to help the team innovate new products and offerings.

Your role as Research Digital Publishing Officer:
  • Leadership and team management
    • Be a thought leader in the academic publishing space, with deep knowledge of publishing techniques and tools with high potential for adoption at the Bank
    • Manage the Research Publishing department consisting of editors, creative staff and web team to promote staff development
  • Operational Excellence
    • Develop SLAs, define scope and responsibilities to help when prioritizing the department’s work and ensure balance in efficiency and effectiveness of team’s work with a strong drive for operational excellence
    • Ensure that the publications meet high standards and readability for targeted audience. Establish robust processes to manage the work
  • Strategy & Innovation
    • Develop new products, services and offerings to enhance the design and distribution of the work of the economists; assist in the development and launch of new communications initiatives to meet stakeholder and audience needs
    • Establish the Research and Statistics Group’s editorial policy and direction for publications and digital communication in conjunction with the needs of the economists
  • Stakeholder Management/Customer Relationship Management
    • Communicate with economists on technical matters and translate their needs into creative and innovative publishing solutions
    • Build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including the Bank’s Communications Group, to collaborate and adopt best practices and to adhere to the Bank’s guidelines


Qualifications:
What we are looking for:
  • 10 years of relevant experience, preferably editing economic and/or other technical material; 5 years of experience managing an editorial or publishing team
  • Demonstrated strategic, forward-thinking leadership experience driving change in a complex organization
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in English, journalism, communications, or a related field; Master's degree strongly preferred. A curriculum rich in Economics is a plus
  • In-depth knowledge and passion for digital publishing
  • Strong knowledge of editorial processes with an eye toward building efficiencies and optimizing processes
  • Strong technology background with the ability to identify and procure tools to achieve strategic outcomes for the team
