This role, reporting to the head of Global Talent Development, will have oversight of the creation of the user experience for a new learning management system, as well as manage BlackRock’s professional development curriculum, as part of the BlackRock Academies.

Role Description:

The Head of BlackRock Learning Platform Functional Design & Professional Development will be responsible for the functional design of the engagement layer and learning management system (LMS), as well as all global professional development curriculum, including personal effectiveness, Day One orientation for all new hires and mandatory compliance training. This also includes responsibility for pilots of new content libraries and partnerships with our external vendors. This person will be a hands-on practitioner as well as a strategic thinker, responsible for enhancing BlackRock’s learning capabilities to be best-in-class and managing a team of learning professionals. 

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with internal development teams and external partners to create new engagement layer and LMS; provide input into vision and define functional requirements to meet that vision; liaise across organization including platform and analytics and APG
  • Maintain existing LMS and user experience short term to as high level quality as possible given system constraints; migrate from existing to new platform and interface
  • Manage and lead a global team to deliver development experiences that align with business strategy for each of the following:
    • Professional Development including business and personal effectiveness training
    • Compliance and mandatory training
    • Pilots of new content libraries, partnerships and delivery approaches (eg podcasts)
    • Day one orientation experience leading into Knowing BlackRock Core

      This oversight includes guiding the needs analysis, instructional design, development, implementation and evaluation

  • Partner with the technical development teams, BlackRock Academies Steering Committee, Human Capital Committee and other stakeholders to understand and convey requirements and prioritizations
  • Design and deliver in-house and third-party solutions that include a blended approach to education, exposure and experience such as coaching, classroom training, virtual and self-guided learning, on the job experiences and mentoring
  • Partner with in-house business teams to guide and advise on using existing offerings
  • Define success metrics to evaluate and adjust solutions using latest best practices
  • Oversee the marketing and communications of offerings including training materials, invites, surveys, intranet content, etc.
  • Develop and manage relationships with external providers and L&D industry experts; leverage those networks to learn and adopt learning best practices within BlackRock.
  • Manage the Professional Development staff globally, including four full time professionals in NY and part time resources in Budapest, Hong Kong and India

    Skills & Qualifications:

  • Required: The ideal candidate will possess 8 to 10 years minimum experience in leading the development and delivery of training programs
  • Considered an experienced, functional leader in the learning and development space with a demonstrated ability to create talent development strategies and translate business performance gaps and opportunities into learning and development strategies
  • Experience with Learning Management System design and implementation; experience with Workday a plus
  • Experience with online learning, mobile learning and performance support
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with C-level business leaders
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high quality results
  • Strong analytical skills, business planning and project management skills
  • Expert in adult learning principles and driving business relevant solutions with high adoption rates
  • Exceptional track record with designing and delivering effective development programs
  • Experience in operating as a global leader, adept at navigating cultures to define and deliver locally resonant programs
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills with all levels of employees as well as superior facilitation skills
  • Able to influence without authority: collaborates effectively with others to identify and resolve issues
  • Corporate University, Adult Learning and Financial Services Experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Organizational Development or Training Development/Education
