Global Mkts Risk Sr Manager
Job Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and communicating an aggregate view of risk across multiple risk types for the FICC businesses, with a strong focus on providing effective second line challenge and strategic risk analysis. Specifically, the role brings together the risk management capabilities across the 7 risk types used by Bank of America: Market, Credit, Liquidity, Compliance, Operational, Strategic and Reputational Risks. While these capabilities are discharged by different specialists teams within Global Risk Management, this role brings together these distinct risk areas to provide a holistic view of risk as well as effectively challenge the overall business strategy and execution.

The role sits within the Global Markets and Financial Risk Department and directly reports to the FICC Markets Risk Executives. The primary focus of this critical role is to provide the FICC Markets Risk Executives and the Global Markets CRO with key reporting and analytical insights regarding the risks outlined in the Bank of America's risk framework. Responsibilities will include conducting key strategic risk assessments within FICC and analyzing financial and market trends to identify emerging risks.

The role involves managing significant risk positions, synthesizing large amounts of information into actionable insights, and performing quantitative and qualitative analysis. The role requires a thorough understanding of risk management practices and appreciation for financial products. It requires understanding of the business activities on trading desks and the business strategy, the processes, products and services provided to clients, and their link with the central tenet of 'responsible growth' and the confidence to challenge business decisions.

The successful candidate will demonstrate intellectual curiosity, exercise sound judgment, create an environment that encourages debate and engages senior executives across a large matrix organization. He / she should be able to confidently work with senior traders, as well as with senior partners in other Risk functions, Treasury, Finance and Research in order to provide an overall risk management assessment. Risk assessments should be written to a standard capable to be used for executive reporting.

We promote cooperation and active dialogue within the regional and global teams and across different risk disciplines including knowledge share, mentoring and other activities to support career and personal development.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Support the FICC Markets Risk Executives in identifying and mitigating risk in early stages of the business development cycle (incl. strategic business planning, new products, client selection, etc.)
  • Contribute to strategic planning and Global Markets CRO memo deliverables
  • Work closely with the FICC Markets Risk Executives to maintain an aggregate view of risk across multiple risk types and conduct a deeper analysis into top risks and emerging focus areas.
  • Participate in the impact assessment, remediation, escalation and tracking of Enterprise CRO top risks from a FICC Global Markets Risk perspective
  • Actively participate in the Enterprise risk identification ("Risk ID") inventory process
  • Assist with portfolio deep dives to effectively review and assess all risks holistically
  • Establish and maintain routines with other control partners to establish effective channels for assessments of liquidity, credit, operational, compliance, reputational, and strategic risk within the markets business
  • Understand risk trends and key issues; aggregate into meaningful metrics and statistics
  • Facilitate understanding of open issues and their impact across risk stripes within FICC
  • Facilitate working groups to understand root causes of issues and follow the data to logical conclusion

Required Skills and Experience
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Quantitative mindset required
  • Ideally 10 years' career experience in financial services including recent experience in first or second-line risk management responsibilities (Market, Credit, Liquidity, Operational, Compliance, Reputational, Strategic)
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively challenge and build consensus
  • Ability to build partnerships across different risk functions and the front line in a constructive manner
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, inquisitive and intellectually curious
  • Self-driven and positive under pressure
