BlackRock's Real Estate team manages debt and equity real estate investments on behalf of public and private pension plans, insurance companies, foundations, endowments and private investors. The platform manages a broad array of investment strategies, including core, value-add and opportunistic, through separate accounts and commingled funds. Our extensive experience encompasses all major property types including office, industrial, retail and residential.

Role Description:

BlackRock's Real Estate team is part of BlackRock's Real Assets group and manages debt and equity real estate investments on behalf of public, corporate and union pension plans, as well as insurance companies, foundations, endowments and private investors. The Global Real Estate Debt Group has invested various debt structures (whole loans, B notes, mezzanine loans, preferred equity and CMBS b-pieces) throughout North America, Europe and Asia.

Responsibilities:

The Director, Originations will be part of BlackRock's Real Estate Debt Group in its New York headquarters office. The successful candidate will play a critical role originating commercial real estate loans by utilizing an established network of sponsors, mortgage brokers and banks, as well as creating new business relationships. The investments will be on behalf of new and existing commingled funds and separate accounts managed by BlackRock. The candidate will report directly to the Real Estate Debt Group's Global Head of Originations.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Leading the origination and execution of debt investment opportunities, including analyzing, underwriting, structuring, and closing commercial real estate loans;
  • Establish, develop and maintain relationships with sponsors, mortgage brokers and senior lenders;
  • Analyze credit worthiness of potential opportunities;
  • Present new deals to the Investment Committee, including the Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager;
  • Perform site visits and market research;
  • Assist in closing transactions;
  • Manage counterparty relationships through the investment lifecycle


Qualifications:

Candidates must have a strong work ethic, excellent analytical skills, and have the ability to manage several deals at one time. Ideal candidates will have the following skills and qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree or higher in a business related field, preferably finance or real estate.
  • The position requires 10+ years of CRE loan origination and transaction management experience at an investment manager, investment bank, specialty finance company or similar.
  • An established network of contacts to source transactions and the ability to create new business channels.
  • Excellent presentation, listening, reading comprehension, and written communication skills.
