Director - Strategy & Reporting, Supervisory Relations
Supervisory Relations is one of three divisions in the Regulatory Strategy & Policy team for BNPP's Intermediate Holding Company ("IHC") and Wholesale operations in the U.S. Supervisory Relations acts as a liaison with the bank's U.S. regulators to promote effective relationships and to ensure a consistent, cohesive and strategic approach to interactions with supervisors. Supervisory Relations coordinates regulatory engagements, oversees regulatory exams and reviews, and supports management in identifying and responding to key themes in supervisory activities.
The Supervisory Relations team works closely with other divisions within Regulatory Strategy & Policy, and with executive management, business lines, and control functions (including Compliance, Finance, Risk and Legal). The team also coordinates as necessary with teams at Bank of the West.
BNPP is looking for a highly motivated, self-directed individual to join the Supervisory Relations team. The Strategy and Reporting Director will be responsible for leading and further developing a team providing strategic advice and support to management in order to proactively address regulatory expectations for BNPP's U.S. banking regulators for the IHC and wholesale operations. This position will report to the Head of Supervisory Relations.
The Strategy and Reporting Director will engage with business and functional management, as well as other teams within Supervisory Relations, to ensure effective exam preparation and execution, issues remediation, and monitoring and reporting. Essential duties and responsibilities include:
•Provide strategic support on large-scale and/or critical supervisory reviews by advising management on supervisory expectations from exam preparation through to execution. Ensure coordination of responses across stakeholders, and assist with preparation and review of materials provided to regulators.
•Collaborate with remediation owners and other stakeholders to develop appropriate responses and remediation plans for supervisory findings. Track and report on remediation lifecycle to support timely and effective remediation. Identify and escalate issues to senior management as appropriate.
•Manage regional participation and information flow on examinations with global scope. Initiate outbound information flow to head office and other regions as appropriate concerning U.S. supervisory developments. Coordinate updates to U.S. regulators on matters that originate from outside the U.S.
•Organize and prepare briefings for regulatory events, including meetings with Group and Regional management and annual Joint Supervisory meetings hosted in New York.
•Develop and produce regular reporting and analysis for management committees and the Board of Directors on the regulatory risk items, themes, and emerging issues. Provide analytical support to business and functional management on regulatory matters as needed.
•Serve as thought leader and advisor on the development of strategy on emerging issues and risks on regulatory matters.
•Facilitate cross-collaboration among Supervisory Relations and other teams within Regulatory Strategy & Policy. Qualifications
The ideal candidate for the Strategy and Reporting Director will be a person who combines a sound understanding of BNPP's businesses with an expertise of regulatory expectations and supervisory processes.
•Prior experience interacting with U.S. regulators (including but not limited to the Federal Reserve and the New York State Department of Financial Services), and a positive reputation as a trusted and transparent communicator
•Deep understanding of bank regulations, and how they apply to a foreign bank operating in the U.S.
•10+ years of specialized experience in financial services regulatory oversight, compliance, and/or legal
•Experience and stature to be credible and effective in dealing with regulators and senior business officers
•Exceptional organizational, project management and written and verbal communication skills
•Effective manager in leading, motivating and developing teams
