Department Overview:
Fitch Ratings has launched a Data Tribe to support the collection, management and governance of financial data used across the entire firm. Within the Data Tribe is a Data Platform Center of Excellence ("CoE"). This team is responsible for designing and implementing our next generation data architecture. With a focus on building platforms for reuse and harnessing leading-edge technologies, the Data Platform CoE will work with agile squads across Fitch to support the efficient collection, management and delivery of data. The Data Platform CoE builds scalable, forward-thinking, and cost-effective platforms in partnership with Fitch's technology and business groups.

Who we are looking for:
A change agent with a passion for working with people and teams to help them improve and deliver their best work. An experienced data architect with experience in financial services who understands the compliance and risk environment. You are a leader who will establish target architectures for data platforms that enable a step-change in data use cases. You will help to grow the governance footprint by winning support for these initiatives by demonstrating their value. You should be a leader who gives control and enables the team, and be comfortable communicating with senior stakeholders. As squad leader you will set the overall CoE vision to direct, inform, and prioritize the workstream.

Key responsibilities:
• Provide data platform users with self service capabilities for ingestion, curation and processing
• Drive architectural thought leadership in designing & implementing a Common Analytic Data Layer
• Oversee ingestion of complex data to ensure lineage tracing, technical monitoring and quality monitoring systems are in place
• Guide data engineers in Use Case Squads on using best practice processing and modeling techniques at scale
• Assist teams in debugging and capture any constraints for removal as part of a continuous improvement and automation program
• Maintain technical momentum in efforts to increase automation in data platforms
• Develop professional guidelines and share best practices
• Ensure CoE members are aligned on 'how' to get work done in CoE
• Provide feedback, clarify requirements and answer questions to CoE on daily basis
• Participate in goal setting, performance review & performance mgmt. for CoE members
• Participate in hiring, and capacity management tasks for CoE
• Work closely with sponsors to understand & drive alignment on strategy, goals & objectives
• Continuously engage with senior leadership and stakeholders to ensure alignment & manage interdependencies
• Lead a team of up to ten data professionals by example and bring out the best in engineering teams
• Model behaviours to support transformation to continuously improving way of working
• Identify continuous improvement opportunities & best practices to progress CoE mission

Requirements:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Finance or Business Management, or equivalent experience
• Agile practitioner capabilities & experience working with or in Agile teams pursing complex engineering work
• 10+ years of practical, hands-on experience as a data engineer or a data architect
• 5+ years in a team lead role.
• Experience in coaching and development a team of engineering professionals.
• Ability to think creatively and brainstorm to find solutions for challenges
• A continuous improvement mind-set and dedication to uncovering better ways of working
• Excellent communications and people-interaction skills
• Commitment to organization's new way of working through greater collaboration & breaking down of siloes
• In-depth knowledge of database design and modeling, including relational, object, graph, and document databases. (Oracle, MongoDB, MySQL, Amazon Aurora, Amazon Redshift, DynamoDB)
• Experience with ETL platforms, ingestion patterns, and data stewardship (Talend)
• Experience with messaging and streaming (Oracle AQ, JMS, Kafka, Amazon Kinesis)
• Familiarity with data governance and lineage systems (Collibra, Octopai, Kylo)
• Big data and data lake experience (Amazon S3, Hadoop, Spark)
