Department Profile
Professionals within the Legal and Compliance Division (LCD) provide a wide range of services to our business units. They might help to structure a complex and sensitive cross-border transaction; advise on a new product introduction; develop a training program or defuse an investor dispute. They preserve the firm's invaluable reputation for integrity and protect the firm from sanctions with policies and procedures that meet regulatory requirements around the world. They also strive to maintain cooperative relationships with governmental policy makers and the regulatory and self-regulatory agencies that govern the firm's businesses.

Data & Analytics is a function in the Legal and Compliance Division responsible for designing and optimizing surveillance models, approaches and tools using advanced analytical techniques like supervised and unsupervised machine learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP) and evolving techniques like reinforcement and deep learning as well as graph analytics. The surveillances and other tools help identify suspicious and/or illegal behaviors like money laundering, market manipulation, insider trading, unfair sales or trading practices and other financial crimes.

Position Description
The Legal and Compliance Data Governance Specialist will join the Divisional Data Office (DDO) within Morgan Stanley's Legal and Compliance Division (LCD) and support the adoption of the LCD Data Governance Program. The Specialist will work closely with global LCD Business and Technology teams, as well as with the Data Center of Excellence, to help drive implementation of the Global Data Policy.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Drive implementation of Global Data Policy by working closely with business and technology teams to identify and catalog critical data elements, data controls, and data-related issues
  • Document procedures to support compliance with data policy principles
  • Track remediation of data-related issues across the Division
  • Represent LCD in firm-wide working groups focused on policy compliance or the tools/platforms used to support compliance with policy
  • Provide guidance to key stakeholders on how to adopt data governance best practices
  • Enhance Program processes where opportunities exist
  • Perform analysis and support strategic projects that add value to the LCD Divisional Data Office and the clients it supports


Qualifications:

Required Skills
  • 5-7 years of experience at a consulting firm or financial institution
  • Self-starter with initiative to drive projects forward
  • Experience writing formal policy/procedures
  • Experience with data governance implementation and issue management
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work with global, cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel
  • General understanding of financial markets
