Data Acquisition Lead

The Data Management Organization (DMO) is leading the charge on data strategy and management in MS Research. Given the growing strategic importance of data, the Research DMO is a key enabler to both the "Offense" (generating new commercial opportunities) and "Defense" (ensuring proper data use and risk management).

The group is seeking an entrepreneurial Data Acquisition Lead with previous experience in sourcing and/or applying 3rd party data. The role is dynamic, fast paced and interacts with multiple stakeholders. As a foundational role, Data Acquisition Lead will combine their data knowledge, critical thinking, business acumen and cross functional leadership to help the Research manage data as an asset.

Responsibilities would include:
• Focus: Develop the strategy, policies and processes for 3rd party data acquisition in Research
• Needs Assessment: Define 3rd Party data needs by working with various data group users in Research, determine gaps/opportunities with our existing and new 3rd party data relationships and partner with a cross-section of internal stakeholders (risk, legal, management, procurement, data user groups) to implement enhancements
• Prospecting: Identify new data partnerships based on existing or anticipated needs for Research and manage initial vendor communication
• Feasibility Analysis: Develop and apply business rules in collaboration with various data teams in Research against sample datasets to estimate impact and quality
• Impact Evaluation: Influence a matrix team (legal, risk, management, procurement) to ensure speed and rigor from contracting to pay, from quality control to onboarding. If there's a gap identify root cause and plan corrective actions
• Metrics & Project Management: Design, track and monitor data acquisition metrics, budget and projects
• General: Awareness of data management practices, emerging trends, and issues

Technical Qualifications
• Data Knowledge: Understanding of the 3rd party data landscape, key players and emerging trends
• Analytical & Critical Thinking: Basic logic and analytical thinking. Basic working knowledge to ask key questions to summarize datasets. Articulate data potential usage in different business context. Give evaluation and concise recommendation through a well-thought out process and analysis
• Business Acumen: Basic understanding of how data relates to business decisions. Comfortable discussing key analytical insight use and business tactics in detail
• Persuasion: Considered a thought partner across different disciplines of people. Effective in problem solving and decision making within a cross-functional team
• Neutrality: Fair and neutral during whole process of prospecting, evaluating and internal discussion. Seek balanced approach and maintain openness to digest different perspectives

Skills Required
• BA or Master's degree in business, supply chain or related field
• 8+ years of professional experience with 4+ years in data governance, acquisition and/or strategy
• Prior experience with 3rd party data (sourcing or usage) and an understanding for contractual limitations and compliance
• Strong verbal and written communications skills, proficient in interacting with Senior Leadership
• Ability to work across various teams and rally support from groups that have differing agendas
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain excellent relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders
• Proven ability of handling multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
• Ability and desire to work in a start-up paced environment and culture
