This role is a part of the Whole Loan Trading team at Nomura, which is part of the Securitized Products Group (SPG). SPG is an important part of Nomura's U.S. Global Markets business.

Key objectives critical to success:

  • Analyze credit risk in Commercial Real Estate mortgage loans (CRE Loans), providing written summary results and participating in discussions of those results with trading team
    • Perform credit review of borrowers and/or guarantors
    • Analyze financial performance and projections for real estate projects
    • Assess experience and suitability of sponsors and developers
    • Review other risk factors associated with real estate such as environmental risks, zoning restrictions and tax status
  • Manage third-party vendor relationships to assist in aspects of this analysis
  • Interact directly with outside originators, clients and investors in the analysis and decision making process
  • Collaborate with internal functional teams including compliance and risk management in the review and approval process

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:

Essential

  • Strong understanding of CRE Loan credit fundamentals and risk factors
  • Hands-on experience in a CRE Loan underwriting role
  • Experience with multiple property types including Multi-family, Office, Mixed Use and Retail
  • Specific experience in the evaluation and underwriting of short-term bridge loans, including renovation and stabilization and plans
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Desirable

  • Experience managing third party due diligence vendor relationships
  • Familiarity with underwriting standards for CMBS and CRE CLO transactions
