The Team:

  • The Credit Estimates team is a close-knit team of analysts across four cities in the Americas and serves an integral part of the leveraged loan markets.
  • We have a fast paced and collegial work environment and communicate frequently across sectors and practices in the company.
  • The nature of interactions are largely internal; there will be some client interface and interaction over a period of time.
  • The team provides solid training grounds in credit analysis and the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of S&P's corporate rating methodologies.

The Impact:
  • The Credit estimates is a critical ingredient of S&P's credit rating process and the credit rating assigned to Collateral Loan Obligations (CLOs).
  • Our clients and other investors rely on the Credit Estimates team for fast, fair, independent and careful evaluation of credit risk for middle market companies.
  • Although our credit opinions are not publicly disclosed, they have a tremendous impact on the ability of small businesses to borrow from an important segment of the financial markets.
  • The group is also responsible for providing other credit products such as Private Credit Analysis ( PCAs) used by Insurance companies for their Capital requirements

Responsibilities:
  • As an Associate, you will analyze companies across a variety of sectors and learn the most important determinants of credit quality for small and medium sized companies.
  • You will analyze company financials and read and review credit agreements
  • You will also assist with detailed statistical and financial analysis for use in reports and related materials for S&P Global Ratings publications.
  • You will work on projects related to credit estimates and recovery ratings including data curation and aggregation towards publishing
  • You should have a steep learning curve; the initial training will be in the area of S&P methodology and analysis; getting familiar with our analytical tools and processes. You will focus on analyzing a number of diverse companies and learn how to evaluate credit quality as efficiently as possible.
  • As you gain experience, you will deal more and more with investors directly, work on larger scope research projects.

We're Looking For:
Basic Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Commerce, Business or Mathematics
  • Excellent Excel and MS Access (or other database) skills
  • Strong analytical skills, including financial statement and quantitative analysis
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications
  • You should have an MBA or a CFA or equivalent preferred
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to analyze financial statements
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Good team player
  • Strong organizational and project managements; high attention to detail
