Associate, Commodities Developer
Morgan Stanley Services Group Inc. seeks an Associate, Commodities Developer in New York, New York
Hands-on coding for implementing proprietary, product-specific algorithms and reporting to compute price and risk levels for Commodities Index Products. Collaborate on design with the global development team, integrating with the Risk Management system and implementing using Agile methodology. Leverage technology and Commodities Index Product knowledge to conduct business and technical analysis, achieved by communicating directly with Front Office, Client Aligned stakeholders, i.e. Traders, Structurers and Desk Strategists for determining requirements of new, proposed functionality. Provide Level Three Production support for mission critical, time sensitive system. Respond to phone calls and emails from Traders, Production Management team and Desk Strategists. Work directly with Desk Strategists for diagnosing differences produced by the algorithms which product price and risk for time sensitive intraday (near-time) and batch (overnight) processes. Software maintenance such as fixing defects, upgrading software libraries to the latest versions, refactoring, and making changes to support division-wide initiatives such as Windows upgrades and cyber security. Mitigate technology and business risk through software best practices. SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle) activities including regression testing, logging defects, building releases, writing documentation and managing code deployment to the production environment.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or closely related field of study and three (3) years of experience in the position offered or three (3) years of experience as an Analyst, Associate, or related occupation in financial services technology. Requires three (3) years of experience with: Java development; UNIX development and scripting including Perl, python, and ksh; SQL development and data analytics with historical time-series and financial background; database tuning tools for Sybase/DB2; data modelling and design, data warehousing and ETL best practices; real-time data distribution clients; front-end development of applications; providing L3 support; performance optimization, distributed caching and software profiling including JProfiler; software engineering including multithreading, dependency injection, software architecture patterns, and design patterns; financial reporting and financial products including swaps, OTC products, and fixed rate instruments; developing, designing and supporting mission-critical applications at global financial institution; distributed programming, Soap/XML; inter-process communication; multithreading; frameworks including Junit and Spring; releasing software in mission-critical business environments; turnover management tools; managing applications across full Software Development Life Cycle. Will accept any amount of experience with Git version control.
