Role Description

BNYM is seeking to hire a dynamic, self-motivated Business Manager to support the Alternatives business. In this role, the Business Manager will support both the Head of Alternatives Product and the Head of Alternatives Client Coverage, giving unique insight into all angles of the business. The Business Manager will report to the Fund Services Senior Business Manager and have a dual reporting line to the ASD Client Coverage Senior Business Manager.

The Business Manager, as part of the Asset Servicing COO organization, provides support to the business and is critical for driving analysis, process improvement, and financial analysis while also delivering on key strategic initiatives.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Act as a thought partner and advisor
  • Coordinate and execute on the strategic and financial objectives of the Alternatives business
  • Assist in driving opportunities to grow the business and client revenues, including support of new products and platforms through the full end-to-end implementation process
  • Prepare and communicate business strategy, performance and priorities to a broad audience, including senior management
  • Facilitate decision making and business progression
  • Proactively focus on problem identification and problem solving
  • Drive competitive benchmarking and market analysis
  • Assist in planning revenues, headcount, expenses and investment/productivity initiatives
  • Provide oversight to ensure that the business is run in an efficient and controlled manner, including tracking against budgets/plans and key financial ratios and ensuring effective management of direct and indirect costs
  • Collaborate and partner with the Finance team to develop financial reporting and key MIS for the business, including commentary on the drivers of key financials
  • Develop, lead and implement Alternative's strategy for resource allocation and project staffing
  • Drive partnership between business and functional teams (e.g. technology, operations, HR, marketing, etc.) to achieve business objectives
  • Partner with others in the COO organization across regions and businesses to share best practice and drive consistency across the bank

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related area
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Good judgement, maturity and poise to enable interaction/influencing of senior management
  • Thoughtful analytical skills; able to develop, clearly present and draw conclusions
  • Self-starter; ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Disciplined approach to managing processes and controls
  • Energetic, self-motivated and effective under pressure
  • Strong analytical and data manipulation skills; proficient in Microsoft Office - Excel, PowerPoint
  • Strong project management and presentation skills
  • Alternatives product acumen or experience in the Asset Servicing industry is preferred
  • 8- 10 years of experience in financial services, business management or related function
