How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:
The individual will be an integral member of the Annuity Valuation team and will initially focus primarily on the GAAP and STAT valuation for Fixed Annuities and Payout Annuities products. The position will work closely with the team on monthly and quarterly valuation and reporting with a focus on analyzing, understanding and explaining key drivers of results. The role will also collaborate with various teams in the company (ALM, Capital Management, Reinsurance, Controllers, Financial Projections, Experience Study, Pricing) to support the company's key initiatives. This offers a great opportunity to grow and progress as an Actuary while expanding knowledge of individual and group annuities and their valuation in a dynamic team environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform monthly and quarterly Fixed and Payout Annuities GAAP/STAT Valuation, Analysis and reporting
  • Develop insightful analytics to assist in understanding, explaining, and communicating valuation results
  • Conduct analysis and testing for valuation assumption, model and methodology updates and refinements
  • Assist in the implementation of valuation and admin system conversion projects
  • Collaborate with other Annuity valuation team members in other cross functional projects
  • Collaborate with corporate and annuities business partners in support of key strategic initiatives (e.g., new product development, accounting regulation changes)

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
  • ASA or near-ASA with a degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics/Finance, Computer Science, or other related quantitative fields
  • 2 - 5 years' experience with annuities valuation and/or cash flow testing preferred
  • Familiarity with Statutory and/or GAAP financials and reserving methods
  • Programming skills and experience with modern actuarial software is a plus (VBA, C++, Python, R, Prophet, MG-ALFA, PolySystems, SQL/Access/Alteryx, etc.)
  • Knowledge of fixed income investments and portfolio management is a plus
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Positive attitude with an eagerness to learn
  • Ability to working in a team environment, co-lead multiple projects, and resolve conflicting priorities
