Dedicated Retirement Education Counselor: Wilmington, North Carolina

Prudential Retirement, a division of Prudential, provides innovative retirement solutions to help plan sponsors and plan participants meet their retirement challenges.

The Retirement Education Counselor role is part of our Retirement Full Service Solutions division and its primary responsibility is to provide retirement education and expertise to our clients and their employees.

This role is a dedicated position on our State of North Carolina team, which serves state departments, local governments and public education agencies in the Southeast region of the State, encompassing several counties and the cities of Wilmington, Fayetteville and Lumberton. The ideal applicant will live in or near the territory and will travel regularly throughout the region and will also leverage virtual tools and processes to engage clients and their employees. Occasional overnight travel (<20%) will be required within the territory, statewide and out of state. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Initiating and growing long-lasting, effective and collaborative relationships with centers of influence to grow the Plans participant base
  • Developing strategic relationships with site contacts within assigned territory
  • Scheduling site visits and managing an effective rotation schedule to maximize opportunities and meet required service level commitments
  • Spending 80% - 90% of their time generating new enrollments, increased savings rates, improving asset allocation and asset consolidation/retention
  • Delivering dynamic, engaging group presentations to large (>100) diverse audiences on topics such as: features and benefits of the employer-sponsored retirement plans, saving for retirement, asset allocation and retirement readiness
  • Working collaboratively with internal business partners to deliver increased client value
  • Serving as the "voice of the customer" by relaying important client feedback obtained during on-site visits to the appropriate Retirement Services area (e.g., Marketing, Sales, Client services, Transition Team)
  • FINRA Series 6 or 7 & 63 licenses required
  • NC Life Insurance license required or obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Advanced financial designation preferred (CRC, CRPC, CFP, ChFC). If none, Certified Retirement Counselor (CRC) designation required within 120 days of hire
  • Minimum 3-5 years sales and client relationship experience within the retirement or financial services industry
  • Proven experience providing retirement education services with in-depth knowledge of Deferred Compensation, Defined Benefit/Contribution plans, Social Security/ Medicare as well as holistic retirement planning concepts
  • Highly developed organizational skills and ability to work independently managing a territory in a remote, fast-paced, results-oriented environment
  • Outstanding account management skills and demonstrated ability to deliver on territory goals
  • Strong group presentation & oral/written communication skills required
  • Bilingual in Spanish considered a plus
  • Must be willing to drive daily to account site locations statewide, including overnights. Non-traditional work hours will also be required at certain customer site locations
  • Ability to transport conference booths/materials and carry up to 40 lbs. is required
  • Excellent customer relationship-building skills
  • Exceptional territory management skills
  • Experience with a consultative, needs-based approach to helping groups or individuals in a financial services/retirement environment
  • Strong project management skills
  • A positive attitude and willingness to share innovative ideas
  • A comprehensive knowledge of mutual funds/separate accounts, with an understanding of the risk/reward tradeoff for all investments
  • The ability to form strong partnerships with our internal service teams to deliver the highest level of customer service while growing the business
  • A passion for new technology and systems, including using required territory management platforms, tools and processes to track activity and progress
