Job Summary

Barings Data Engineering group is seeking an experienced Cloud Solutions Data Engineer. This position will be located in the Barings Charlotte, NC office. As a member of this team, the associate will be part of a fast paced environment that services multiple business lines around the globe. The associate will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing data warehouses, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure to drive intelligent applications using Microsoft Azure. The Cloud Solutions Data Engineer will work closely with in-house application development teams, data scientists, Database Administrators and project management office as part of Data Engineering team. This is a highly technical position, but also requires strong communication and mentoring skills.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Designing optimal cloud-hybrid Big Data/Data Warehouse data pipelines & orchestration architectures to migrate existing solutions from on premise to cloud, and to initiate new cloud data solutions.
  • Constructing new data platforms and developing pipelines, ETL and analytical processes to support products and solutions.
  • Technical oversight for advanced analytical solutions to deliver real-time insights.
  • Developing strategies, policies and best practices regarding Big Data and Cloud data acquisition, integration and analytics.
  • Preparing technical design documents and estimation including storage, resource, and operational details.
  • Work with development teams, Data Scientists, Database Administrators and Project Management Office as part of Data Engineering team.
  • Mentoring and coaching peers on cloud technologies.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience working in Azure SQL Data Warehouse, Azure Data Factory and Azure Data Lakes.
  • Hands-on experience in designing and implementing scalable, performant data platforms, and ability to deliver proof of concepts and projects in Azure.
  • Hands-on experience in designing data solutions integrating on premise and cloud data sources.
  • Experience working with Cloud environments and data repositories.
  • Thorough understanding of Big Data, and execution experience with Enterprise Data Warehouses (EDWs) and knowledge of BI/DW solutions.
  • Experience developing and tuning ETL processes and utilizing industry-standard ETL tools (e.g. SSIS)
  • Experience with modern Data Ingestion/Data Integration/Data Pipeline/Data Orchestration tools & streaming services (ex. Apache Kafka, Nifi, AWS Kinesis, Snowflake Streams & Tasks)
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, NOSQL, DocumentDB, etc.
  • Familiarity with data-oriented scripting languages: shell, Python/R/Java/Scala/Perl.
  • Working knowledge of message queuing and stream processing and familiarity working with big data formats (Apache Avro, Parquet, ORC).
  • Familiarity with data modeling approaches such as ERD and concepts behind relational, normalized and star schema database architectures
