Overall Purpose of Role

To ensure efficient and effective operation of Barings Café, Catering Services and Vending while meeting or exceeding customer expectations, where customers are clients, guests and Barings Associates.

Barings strives to be gracious hosts and provide exceptional hospitality to all clients, guests and associates. Food Service is instrumental in delivering outstanding hospitality and an excellent dining experience whether in the Café, during a meeting, or at a catered event. The Food Services Manger will be charged with developing and maintaining excellence in every facet of Barings Food Service.

Candidate

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A degree or accreditation in restaurant management or a food and beverage related field
  • 15 to 20 years of experience in food services with no less than 10 years of managerial experience.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Experience interviewing, hiring and managing kitchen and service staff.
  • Experience developing budgets and maintaining accountability for P&L with a successful food service operation.
  • Polished communication skills, a positive, outgoing personality naturally suited to providing excellent customer service, a drive for continued development and improvement, and a strong desire to achieve excellence.

Principal Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

  • Negotiate and manage contracts with third-party service providers (café, catering, coffee, kitchen service, and vending), developing and maintaining excellent relationships with key principals at all service providers.
  • Develop and maintain accountability for budgets for all Barings food services, continuously seeking cost reductions where they will not impact quality or service.
  • Develop appropriate success metrics and measure the performance of food services with these metrics in regular monthly reports.
  • Maintain close and effective relationships with key Barings Hosts, i.e. executive assistants, event planners, training mangers, marketing managers and others regularly hosting catered events and meetings.
  • Maintain close and effective communication with the Corporate Office Manager ensuring they are promptly informed of all current events and issues.
  • Interview and approve all staff proposed by third-party service providers to work within the Barings office.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to establish a continuous process of seeking improvement.
  • Maintain a level of market awareness appropriate to the areas for which the Food Services Manager are responsible.
  • Optimize operational effectiveness.
  • Deliver service to all events within the terms agreed to by the Hosts.
  • Ensure the procurement of all services and equipment is undertaken in the best interest of Barings.
  • Maintain close communication with Hosts and Barings associates obtaining regular feedback regarding what is working and not working in the Café,, during Events and in the galleys, promptly implementing necessary changes or improvements.
  • Maintain the highest levels of cleanliness throughout the Barings food services and catering operations (weekly inspections of catering kitchen, cafeteria and galleys).
  • Support and foster improvements of Barings ESG program as it pertains to food services.

Café

  • Oversee daily operations with third-party service provider ensuring staff, service and quality meet expectations at all times.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase utilization and revenues of the Café
  • Foster an attractive, collegial environment in Barings Café where associates can enjoy dinning and socializing together.
  • Supervise the preparation of all menus (daily menus in the Café, event catering and meeting service menus).
  • Develop a plan with the service provider to offer broader, more appealing selections in the Café with more traditional lunch options and present it to management for approval.
  • Once the plan is approved, oversee the prompt and efficient implementation of the plan within established budgets and meeting all expectations.
  • Ensure overall food offering and quality is maintained at the highest standards.
  • Monitor trends and future direction of similar facilities in order to envision and initiate the necessary changes to provide and maintain Best-in-Class food services.
  • Constantly seek to pre-empt potential problems and find solutions on a day-to-day basis.
  • Assess systems and processes making changes where needed for optimum service delivery.
  • Embed a culture of continual review in order to monitor performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Regularly review and approve all third-party invoices and report monthly on the financial performance of food services in accordance with the established budget.

Catering

  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for use in all Catered Events.
  • Oversee operations of Corporate Catering/Events ensuring an excellent customer experience at all times.
  • Negotiate menus and costs with Hosts and Event Planners obtaining their consensus.
  • Liaise with Barings Hosts, Event Planners and third-party service provider to ensure menus, service levels and facilities meet or exceed all expectations.
  • Oversee third-party service providers to ensure that all events are well planned, and that expected service levels and quality are understood by all.
  • Work with third-party service provider to add more traditional lunch items to menu.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry to ensure Barings Event Services are kept current and meet or exceed guest expectations.
  • Optimize operations effectiveness to ensure the hospitality service adapts to the changing needs of Barings, as well as the variety of events and service levels.
  • Embed a culture of continual review in order to monitor performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure all records are kept properly and consistently.
  • Regularly review and approve all third-party invoices and report monthly on the financial performance of food services in accordance with the established budget.

ESG

  • Develop and implement food service and catering policies that protect the environment and support Barings ESG program.
  • Seek ways to influence Barings carbon footprint in the food services and catering operations.
  • Liaise with Barings ESG Manager regularly to ensure that food services are aligned with achieving Barings ESG objectives.
  • Working closely with the ESG Manger, improve environmental awareness among the food service and catering teams and introduce behavior change programs which support the corporate social responsibility of Barings associates.
