Operations is one of the largest divisions in the firm and has diverse responsibilities, including correctly settling and recording millions of transactions per day, identifying and mitigating all operational risks, developing strong client relationships and partnering with technology to realize the full potential of IT and e-solutions. Throughout, the Operations department continually seeks ways to improve while actively supporting the development of new businesses, structures and markets.

Institutional Securities Group (ISG) Product Operations encompasses two functionally aligned organizations. The first, Trading & Client Operations, provides Operations functions in direct support of activity executed by Institutional Sales &Trading. The second, Clearing Operations, provides Operations functions in direct support for activity cleared by Morgan Stanley on behalf of our clients in Prime Brokerage, Listed Derivatives, and OTC Derivatives. The broad organization partners closely with Sales and Trading to develop and implement new products and services as well as drive efficiency and reduce risk in our processes. At all times we are focused on delivering quality service to clients both internal and external. ISG Product Operations partners closely with Shared Services and Banking Operations as well as Branch Operations and Operations Risk & Control to deliver a connected 'front to back' view of operations to ISG Sales and Trading.

Trading Operations Risk & Metrics has an excellent opportunity for an energetic, driven and risk aware candidate with relevant Operations experience to contribute to the creation and execution of the departments risk and metrics agenda. The role provides the opportunity to gain experience of the products and activities of the department and to build a broad network of senior stakeholders and subject matter experts.
The role requires a Vice President and will be based in Baltimore. This is an opportunity which will present the right individual with a platform for demonstrating the leadership and execution qualities required to progress their career at Morgan Stanley.

The Trading Operations Risk and Metrics Team is responsible for setting, executing upon and enforcing the Operations and broader firm's risk management and Metrics agenda. This is achieved through partnering closely with line teams, senior stakeholders, subject matter experts, other risk and metrics teams and colleagues from across the broader organization.
Trading Operations is the global trade capture organization for the Institutional Securities Group (ISG). Businesses supported include Institutional Equity, Fixed Income, Syndicates and Commodities and activities covered include Trade Support, Position Control and Confirmations.

The team is responsible for risk management governance, design, evolution and preparation of key risk reporting to senior stakeholders. The team is also involved in Regulatory Submissions, conduct Industry Analysis and reporting, engagement in various proactive and preventative risk reduction initiatives, focused deep dives and proactively drive adherence to the firm-wide risk framework, policy and standards. The team provides risk oversight for Regulatory, People, Process, and Technology risks and is made up of 5 individuals located in Baltimore, and is part of a larger global team reporting to the Global head of Trading Operations Risk/Metrics based in London.

Responsibilities

- The role will be to act as the North America Trading Operations Risk and Metrics lead, reporting into the Global Head of Trading Operations Risk and Metrics (ED). The candidate will need to demonstrate leadership qualities and the ability to actively partner with the broader risk and metrics management community. The candidate will supervise the local team & vendor staff to ensure the Firm delivers regulatory reports in a compliant and timely manner with external deadlines. The candidate will be responsible for the ongoing development of staff and will be expected to analyze data where reporting is incorrect and offer solutions to resolve.
- The candidate will also have primary risk oversight of products and initiatives which are aligned within the team. The individual will be working in a challenging and fast paced environment with a constantly evolving agenda. The role requires regular interaction with risk managers in all departments, divisions, line managers and communication to various levels of management within Operations and other areas in the firm.
- The successful individual will have strong verbal and written communication skills and a background in a relevant financial services role, in particular experience of Operational processing and control activities.

High Level Responsibilities and expectations will include:

- Leading a team of 5 individuals located in Baltimore in executing a challenging, dynamic and evolving risk and metrics agenda.
- Support risk colleagues and senior management in designing and facilitating key business aligned risk management programs and risk-aligned projects/deep dives.
- Coordination with Operations Risk and Control, Audit and other Operations Risk teams to design, facilitate and execute upon initiatives, in support of governance efforts across ISG Product Operations.
- Support the overall risk environment through upholding and developing the risk and control agenda and through the on-going development and evolution of key metrics.
- Identify new opportunities to create efficiencies in monthly metrics reporting and ad-hoc queries.
- Ensure accurate and timely delivery of regulatory and industry reporting and assist in addressing data requests from regulators by interpreting the scope and requirements to provide relevant metrics and reporting.
- Conduct annual Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSAs) of specific product areas to identify inherent risks, update the control framework and apply residual risk ratings to coordinate, produce and present risk based information to our business and management stakeholders.
- Implement a framework ensuring appropriate oversight and supervision occurs in Trading Ops.
- Complete the production of risk packs and key risk indicators, inclusive of analysis, trending, exception management and commentary.
- Execute upon a potentially broad range of strategic projects, including but not limited to; reducing aged cash/stock breaks, new business initiatives, entitlements governance.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree required
- Experience in financial services, particularly Operations activities and ideally with experience in a line, metrics, and/or risk management role.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and build relationships, within Operations and across the organization.
- Candidate should be a self-starter with ability to work independently or part of a broader team, multi-task and execute in a timely fashion.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong awareness of risk and control.
- Individual should be performance-driven, proactive and able to display a proven ability to take on challenges and to execute upon key deliverables.
- Flexibility to react and adapt to business needs and changing priorities.
- Able to organize themselves efficiently, keep track of outstanding items and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrate analytical skills and attention to detail in their prior work experience.
