Wellington Alternative Investments (WAI) sponsors and sub-advises a broad array of long/short equity, multi-strategy, global macro, and relative value hedge funds that invest globally across all asset classes. WAI Fund Services (WAI-FS) is responsible for the financing, accounting, and operations for these hedge funds.  WAI-FS is comprised of three teams: 1) Fund Administration; 2) Treasury, and 3) Audit and Financial Reporting.  The WAI Fund Controller will be a member of the Audit and Financial Reporting team. This role will require frequent interaction and collaboration with other Wellington teams and service providers (Prime Brokers, Fund Administrators, Auditors).


  • Oversee and/or perform annual audit and financial reporting activities for a book of hedge funds

  • Assist with the planning and management of the audit and financial reporting processes

  • Assist with process improvement efforts by helping to identify, develop and implement enhancements

  • Lead and/or support audit-related projects (tactical and strategic)

  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert, analyzing and resolving complex issues and responding to inquiries on a broad array of topics

  • Oversee and/or perform a variety of accounting, operational, and financing activities

  • Develop and manage relationships with Wellington's centralized teams and external service providers


  • College undergraduate degree, preferably in accounting, finance, or business

  • A minimum of 8 years of audit and financial reporting experience

  • CPA required

  • Hedge fund experience, including various structures (master/feeder, class/series, side pockets, SPVs), and complex financial instruments (derivatives, private investments)

  • Very strong attention to detail and analytical, quantitative, and organizational skills

  • A natural curiosity and desire to expand one's knowledge and role

  • Advanced Excel and Access skills, or a desire to develop them

  • Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, performing multiple tasks and balancing competing priorities

  • Ability to work independently and solve problems

  • A client service mindset and strong communication skills
