TAX ASSOCIATE
Position Description
This position begins Summer or Fall 2021
At RSM, associates work with large and small companies in various industries. They develop strong working relationships with clients built on understanding their businesses and challenges. Associates work on multiple team engagements each year, including several pieces of any particular assignment— not just one part. Tax Associates with a legal background provide tax consulting services to clients by:
Completing tax planning and research
Providing innovative cross-border tax strategies, state and local tax planning strategies, and federal tax planning advice
Building strong international tax planning relationships with RSM affiliates
Understanding tax treaties, laws and regulations
As a Tax Associate in our Boston office you will have the opportunity to support a variety of groups including International Tax, State & Local Tax, Federal Tax, M&A and more.
Associates should expect to:
Work closely with experienced tax professionals in collegial environment on sophisticated tax planning, transactions, and structuring.
Research and write memoranda and other written documentation on complex tax issues for business and individual tax clients
Become increasing involved in developing cutting edge tax ideas that could significantly lessen clients’ overall effective tax rates
Learn U.S. federal, state and local country tax rules and regulations while working in a team setting.
Basic qualifications for a Tax Associate level position include:
Minimum JD, LLM, or MST degree, or equivalent, from an accredited university
Minimum 3.0 GPA
Meeting education requirement for CPA certification or bar admission in the state where you are applying for employment
Business or accounting background preferred
Preferred qualifications for an associate-level position include:
Working toward the successful completion of the CPA exam or bar exam
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong interest in tax demonstrated through coursework or prior experience
Ability to work effectively on a team
Ability to work and multitask in a fast-paced environment
