The Senior Accountant - Corporate Accounting - Chemicals is located at Corporate Headquarters in Boston, MA and will be a key member of the Corporate Controller's Group. This visible role is responsible for closing the general ledgers of various Corporate entities and works closely with other corporate functions (Technical Accounting, External Reporting, Treasury, FP&A, Tax, Legal, etc.) as well as accountants around the world.

Our Client is a global, Publicly Traded specialty chemicals and performance materials company, headquartered directly in Boston, Massachusetts. With around 4 Billion in annualized revenue, our client is a leader within it's space.


The Senior Accountant - Corporate Accountant - Chemicals will be responsible for the following, but will not be limited to the duties below:

  • Plays a lead role to perform the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for various Corporate Entities including preparation of journal entries, general ledger reconciliations and related analyses
  • Works closely with the Technical Accounting team to ensure accurate accounting for areas such as Stock-Based Compensation, Fair Values, Purchasing Accounting, Discontinued Operations, Pensions, etc. as applicable to the Corporate sites
  • Assists in the development of the budget, forecast, long-range plan
  • Identifies and communicates issues timely. Works directly with corporate functions, regional accountants and business / functional leaders (as necessary) to ensure timely resolution
  • Assists in evaluating the Corporate site's compliance with the Company's accounting policies and internal controls, and implementing improvement where possible
  • Supports the external review and audit of the Company's financial statements on a quarterly and annual basis, including making recommendations for improvement
  • Undertakes special projects based upon individual interests and requests of the Controller's team (i.e. assisting with ad hoc and financial analysis, systems upgrades, treasury process improvements etc.)


A strong applicant for the Senior Accountant - Corporate Accountant - Chemicals should have a background that encompasses the education, experience and technical skills listed below.

Education and Experience

  • Degree in Accounting
  • Masters in Accountancy or Finance (not required)
  • At least three years public accounting experience or mix of public / private company experience, preferably including SEC reporting experience
  • CPA or CPA in progress preferred (not required)

Skills and Software

  • Extensive knowledge of accounting principles and usage of financial statements
  • Solid working knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements
  • Ability to work as part of a team, independently and with colleagues around the world
  • Strong written / oral communication skills
  • Adept PC skills. Proficient in PC based software applications
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadline
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing accounting preferred (not required)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Possesses potential for future advancement within the Company
  • Strong organizational and documentation skill
  • Capacity to perform detailed analysis while understanding the big picture implication(s)
