We are seeking a Municipal Analyst todevelop/affirm timely research recommendationsof generalobligation and revenue bonds withinboth the investment grade and high yield spectrums.

S/he will communicate with the investment team to determine relative value,as well as communicate currentviews. S/he will work withthe team to develop, articulate and implementstrategic and tactical recommendations.This position reports tothe Head of Municipal Research.


Mellon's Municipal/Tax-Sensitive buy discipline is valuation-based. We develop research ideasbased on a particular bond orsector's credit strength and yield spreadand after-tax yield versusother securities/sectors within themunicipal market. Idea generation can evolve from eitherthe trading desk, credit analystsor portfolio managers. Our researchanalysts review the fundamentals,including analysis of thehistory and current health of credits, along with pro-forma judgments about future trendsand credit quality. In addition, we look at how certain sectorsand securities compare withother sectors both currently and on a historical basis. Ourportfolio management team evaluatesthe sizing of exposures that are appropriate in theportfolio context.


Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Qualified candidates will have 2 to 5 years of investment experience and demonstrated expertise and interest in the analysis of both general obligation and revenue bonds. S/he should have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and an ability to work as part of a highly collaborative investment team. Progress towards an MBA (or equivalent) and/or CFA are preferred.
