Manager, Operational Risk Management

Operational Risk Management (ORM) collaborates with senior risk officers from each business area to ensure an appropriate risk management framework is in place by assisting in the identification, assessment and mitigation of operational risks, enabling risk-aware decision making, identifying potential risk gaps and integrating best practices.  


The Manager, ORM will report to an Associate Director in ORM and participate in or lead various types of cross-functional projects to address operational risks. The Manager will liaise with business unit leadership to support business units' identification and management of operational risks. As a key member of the team, the individual will:

  • Contribute to or lead ORM strategic priorities
    • Redesign global risk and control framework to meet needs of boards, risk committees and business teams
    • Implement enterprise data governance program for pilot data domains
    • Facilitate timely assessment of business impact due to activities, including new clients, products and investors
  • Lead or participate in other cross-functional initiatives designed to assess and mitigate risk   
  • Prepare project deliverables:  project plans, workflow diagrams, business requirements
  • Analyze data and errors to identify emerging risks using Tableau and excel
  • Respond to client due diligence queries about operational risk management framework
  • Make recommendations for improvement in technology and processes to risk owners
  • Leverage external network to gather best practices



The successful candidate will have 10-15 years of experience, preferably with consulting/advisory experience or operational role in the asset management industry. An undergraduate degree is required, and an MBA degree or relevant certifications (e.g. Claritas, FRM risk management) is a plus. Additional qualifications include:
  • Significant process analysis, redesign, and implementation experience
  • Proven project management and organizational skills
  • Experience identifying operational risks within the asset management industry, including risks related to:
    • Portfolio management and trading (e.g. order construction, portfolio monitoring)
    • Portfolio services (e.g. valuation, derivatives, performance, accounting)
    • Client services (e.g. transition management, cash flows, reporting)
    • Sponsored products (e.g. fund administration, fund oversight, fund sales and marketing)
    • Information technology risks (e.g. information security, disaster recovery, data integrity)
  • Assertive self-starter who can work independently to identify, research and resolve unfamiliar issues
  • Attention to detail and ability to efficiently document intricate business processes
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Prior experience with Tableau and an enterprise risk software
  • Ability to think strategically while also focusing on the details
  • Intellectually curious and eager to learn
