Manager, Finance & Administration (Accounting Policy)

The Manager, Finance & Administration (Accounting Policy) is responsible for ensuring that Wellington Management Group LLP (WMG) and its subsidiaries accounting policies are in compliance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS, as applicable). The position will report to the Global Controller. The role will also serve as the primary liaison on accounting policy matters with the external auditors, industry accounting groups, and management. In addition, the position will oversee emerging regulation related to regulatory capital requirements for WMG's domestic and international subsidiaries. The position may also assist with various accounting related initiatives and also serve as a reviewer of the audited financial statements.

Job Responsibilities

         Provides the firm's technical accounting guidance, while working collaboratively with the Global Controller, senior finance management and the external auditors

o    Stay abreast of emerging accounting standards impacting the asset management industry

§  Draft position papers on key pronouncements for senior finance management and external auditor review

§  Assist in the implementation of new accounting standards

§  Update the relevant  Audit Committees on new pronouncements and  the impact to the firm

o    Represent firm on industry accounting policy   committees and groups

§  SIFMA Asset Management Accounting Policy Committee

§  Asset Management Industry Accounting Policy Group ("AMIAPG")

         Participate as required in drafting industry group comment letters on new pronouncements

§  Collectives Investments Industry Accounting Group

         Provide support to other areas of the firm, Wellington Management Funds, including private equity, and client facing teams, on new accounting standards or technical questions

         Act as reviewer for the audited financial statements of the firm's corporate entities, the benefit plans, and the charitable foundation including footnote disclosures for new pronouncements  

         Maintain  the firm's Global accounting policies by leveraging the wider finance team to update and to keep policies current for both US GAAP and IFRS

         Stay abreast of regulatory reporting requirements for the locations where Wellington operates to ensure ongoing compliance for financial related requirements

         Review and assess financial internal controls and processes across Finance & Administration

         Recommend, as needed, changes that will enhance financial controls and lead the implementation

         Design and document   global internal control polices and develop management reporting on internal controls   by leveraging the Work Day financial platform and/or other systems


The Manager, Finance & Administration (Accounting Policy) should have 10 plus years of relevant work experience, ideally in accounting policy role at a multinational financial services company that includes background with finance related internal controls.   The ideal candidate would have a combination of experience in public accounting and private industry in a similar role. A strong technical accounting background with demonstrated accomplishments in implementing accounting standards is critical.

The candidate must have the ability to communicate at all levels of management including the Chief Financial Officer, Audit Committee, and external auditors.

The candidate must be able to work independently but collaborate broadly in communicating and implementing accounting standards and internal control policies globally.

Other requirements include:

         A CPA or advanced degree is a preferred

         Demonstrated ability to work as an independent contributor and also collaboratively across geographic and multicultural settings is needed

         Strong technology skills or an aptitude to implement technology to assist in accounting policy workflow and designing internal control metrics is a plus.
