  • Overview

    Located in Boston, working with the Bank’s Small Business Lending Team and members of the Bank’s Community Investment staff, the Community Development Small Business Lending Officer is responsible for originating new high-quality Community Reinvestment Act (CRA)-eligible small business financing transactions, within the Bank’s Greater Boston Assessment Area, especially those benefiting small businesses in low- and moderate-income or under-served locations, managing the resulting portfolio of small business commercial relationships,  and cross-selling the Bank’s other products and services. 

    Responsibilities

    Business Development Originates new small business lending opportunities primarily located in low- and moderate-income areas.  Responsible for annual goals tied to numbers of qualifying loans originated. 

    Develops an external network of contacts and centers of influence and is actively involved with the business communities associated with low- and moderate-income or under-served locations.

    Credit Quality/Portfolio ManagementWhile maintaining a strong customer focus and customer relations, assesses and monitors a commercial small business loan portfolio.  Understands, adopts, and adheres to the Bank’s Loan Policy.  Provides accurate assessments of credit risk as exhibited by proper risk ratings, comprehensive and accurate credit applications submitted for approval, solid loan recommendations and proposed structures.  Understands loan documentation.  Maintains comprehensive and current credit files.  Monitors risk (delinquencies, overdrafts, etc.).  Provides timely information to management regarding potential portfolio issues. 

    Qualifications
    • Makes decisions in a timely manner, uses a mixture of analysis, experience and judgment to solve difficult problems with effective solutions
    • Accurately plans and scopes out length and difficulty of tasks, sets goals and objective and completes tasks on time
    • Minimum of 2 years direct small business lending experience preferred 
    • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
    • Proficient in multi-tasking in a team oriented and collaborative environment focused on the highest standards of client service. 
    • Takes initiative and actively markets the Bank’s products and services
    • BS/BA preferred
