Santander Bank is looking for a dynamic senior risk leader to help us excel in the fast-paced ever evolving world of payments and deposits. Investment and transformation in both traditional (e.g., wires, ACH, check) and emerging payments (e.g., Person-to-Person P2P, Real-time Payments-RTP, Blockchain) is occurring across the financial services industry at a rapid pace. These transformations while helping to enable new and innovative payment solutions for our customers generates risk. This further emphasizes the need for strong risk identification, assessment, controls and governance to both protect our customers and company.
This role will serve as a subject-matter expert across the enterprise and lead the Payment Systems and Deposit Risk function located within the 2nd Line of Defense Risk Management team. Responsible for the end-to-end risk strategy, oversight and governance of payment systems and deposit risks this role will partner with the 1st Line of Defense business units to identify, assess and ensure risks are managed effectively within Santander’s risk appetite.
As the Head of Payment Systems and Deposit Risk you will be responsible for:
Demonstrating expert payments and deposits subject-matter expertise to serve as an authority and credible challenge to management relating to identified risks, the performance of controls, risk appetite, and key metrics/indicators
Developing and coaching a team of risk professionals who will be applying both quantitative and qualitative analysis to assess, detect, control and effectively manage payment systems and deposits risks
Owning all payment systems and deposit risk policies, standards and best-practices including the performance of policy assurance/adherence
Delivering industry best-practices, tools, guidance, and training to help elevate all organizations throughout Santander
Collaborating with business line leaders to recommend and vet existing and emerging payment product initiatives, product and channel strategies, and process optimization
Reviewing and challenging the management of overdraft and funds availability risk with the goal of optimizing usage (experience, accessibility) while limiting the risks of loss and non-compliance
Identifying, assessing and helping to manage emerging and evolving risk issues in partnership with the 1st Line of Defense
Performing critical oversight for both customer facing and back office operations with a focus on transactional and regulatory risks
Recommending investment, improvement and appropriate tools and technology are used for risk identification
Developing and executing on a first-party fraud program including the creation of tools, strategies and routines aimed at the detection and prevention of fraud

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in Business, Finance, Management (or equivalent field, Masters of Business Administration, or equivalent work experience).
Work Experience: 10+ years managing payments in either a product, risk or compliance based capacity. Expert level knowledge of how payments process, authorize, settle, clear and move through various ecosystems. Strong knowledge of deposits, new account originations and the regulations which govern deposit accounts (FCRA, Reg E, Reg DD, etc.).

You effectively build partnerships/relationships across business units and/or functions
You can articulate and are comfortable recommending action built from fact to executives, even if it is the unpopular path forward
You have grit, perseverance and managerial courage to challenge processes, controls and the status quo
You can be a player and a coach directing a team of talented risk professionals
The world of payments moves quick and you have to move with it to adapt to new developments/changing circumstances, multiple demands, and competing priorities
You have exceptional written and oral communication skills
