The Embedded Science Team Analyst (ESTA) at Wellington Management will be integrated with one or more fundamental investment teams and will be responsible for having an impact on the investment process by complementing the art of investing with science.  The ESTA will also work within a community of other scientific investors and resources in the firm's Investment Science Department, comprised of risk managers, data scientists, quantitative investors, microstructure and derivatives experts.  The ESTA will leverage these resources and their own expertise to bring a spectrum of scientific insights to their teams' investment processes and philosophies.


Specific responsibilities and projects will vary by investment team, but generally the ESTA will be responsible for:

  • Generating investment insights and ideas from scientific research on both traditional and alternative data sets
  • Developing new models, custom analytics, and technologies that enhance the investment process and the investment team's productivity
  • Working with PMs to improve capital allocation and other portfolio construction decisions using risk models and other analytical tools; analyzing and proposing optimal hedging strategies where appropriate
  • Improving the efficiency of trading and after-cost results by analyzing PM behavior, liquidity and trading costs
  • Working closely with the Investment Science department to leverage their resources as a conduit and connector to fundamental investors; Represent these resources maximizing their impact and efficiency
  • Proposing and implementing ideas that make the Investment Science resources more valuable to the broader firm
  • Educating and inspiring fundamental investors to better understand and incorporate scientific insights


Ideal candidates will have:
  • A passion for science and investing and how science can best complement fundamental investment processes
  • Familiarity and or experience with fixed income investing
  • A disposition that naturally excels at collaboration and communication is critical
  • Aptitude and experience in a rigorous research and model building environment
  • An education in a scientific discipline or mathematics and high academic achievement
  • Strong technology and at least intermediate programming skills
