The Role :

Reporting to the Head of Technology & Innovation within the Investment Management (IM) Data Solutions group, the Business Analyst - Technology & Innovation will help design and architect solutions to complex data integration, data science, process re-engineering, and automation problems. This will require the analyst to work with internal clients to gain a detailed understanding of their needs, and to assess new and exciting technologies in order to identify the most appropriate solution. The team provides assistance to the client through the full life cycle of a project, from design through to implementation. A particular focus of this role will be to help manage a collaborative data platform that is being adopted by teams across IM, while building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.

This is a unique opportunity to join the IM Data Solutions team, a small, multi-disciplinary team that is transforming the way information is created, used, and communicated within BNY Mellon IM. The group works directly with BNY Mellon's Investment Management companies on strategic projects, creating valuable tools and insights for decision makers across portfolio management, research, sales, marketing, and other key areas of the business. The Data Solutions team capitalizes on opportunities across business lines using the best tools and practices, like machine learning, econometrics, agile development, and modern data platforms and technology.

Responsibilities :
  • Help manage a collaborative data science and data engineering platform
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across IM and the enterprise
  • Onboard new users and provide continuing education through demos, documentation, and office hours
  • Consult with new users on data pipelines, databases, visualizations, and other tools
  • Assist team by staying abreast of the latest technology developments, both internal and external
  • Take initiative to contribute to team efforts in data science, analytics, and software development
  • Work with Data Engineers and Data Scientists to improve processes and enable faster insight-generation from complex datasets
  • Serve as an evangelist for modern data engineering and data science practices across the firm


Preferred Qualifications :
  • BA/BS Degree (advanced degrees and/or CFAs are great too)
  • At least 2-3 years of general business experience, especially in financial services, asset management, management consulting, or similar environments (more experience is fine too, e.g. career switchers)
  • Strong generalist able to add value in a variety of ways
  • Excellent interpersonal and client-facing skills
  • Passion for helping others succeed
  • Can-do attitude, willingness and ability to navigate bureaucracy and work with function/business areas across the company
  • Strong writing skills, ability to summarize technical information in a clear way
  • Some amount of hands-on data/coding experience, especially SQL and Python
  • Experience with modern data pipelines and/or data operating platforms (e.g. Dataiku, Alteryx, Spark) a plus
  • Familiarity with basic machine learning algorithms and techniques a plus
