The Media Relations Specialist is focused on both internal and external communications efforts on behalf of The Inland Real Estate Group of Companies, Inc., one of the nation’s largest commercial real estate and investment management companies. Candidates will be comfortable working in a team environment with executives at all levels to help develop messaging and communicate it to the marketplace via focused media campaigns, including press releases, pitching and building relationships with key members of the media, social media campaigns, as well as maintaining content on the corporate website and employee intranet. The role also includes management of internal employee communications, ensuring all employees are informed of key business developments, corporate initiatives and accomplishments. This includes writing the quarterly internal employee newsletters as well as the news portion of the employee intranet portal and the creation of multi-weekly digital communications to all employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write press releases and manage media campaigns for Inland member companies
  • Source news opportunities and pitch stories/executives to the media
  • Manage internal communications efforts - including the writing, interviewing and production of quarterly internal company newsletter
  • Manage social media pages, campaigns and initiatives
  • Maintain internal employee news website with multi-weekly news postings
  • Coordinate and implement regular all-company informational webinars
  • Copywriting for internal/external marketing materials and award submissions
  • Update content on corporate website
  • Assist the Manager of Media Relations and Vice President of Media Relations


  • 3-5 years of experience in communications, public relations or related field
  • Must have strong writing, proofing and editing abilities; experience in commercial real estate, finance and investments a plus
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and complete a project from start-to-finish
  • Knowledge of AP style
  • Comfortable working with all levels of employees and executives
  • Familiarity with national press release distribution services such as PR Newswire or BusinessWire
  • Familiarity with media databases such as Cision/Meltwater
  • Experience with online meeting vendors such as Ring Central or GoToMeeting is a plus
  • Familiarity with basic HTML a plus
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
  • Proficient with social media platforms including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Public Relations, Communications, Business or related field
