The Sr. Infrastructure Engineer supports the Enterprise Server Platforms team at CME Group. The candidate must have expert knowledge of Windows administration, configuration, networking, scripting and automation , large scale distributed computing, hardware/operating system/application interaction, and security best practices. The incumbent also provides technical direction to other senior engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Heavy experience using scripted languages such as PowerShell or chef for both architectural and operational work (other languages like C++, python or shell scripting are also acceptable)
  • DevOps tool experience highly desirable, such as Jenkins, SMA, Git, Bamboo, Chocolatey and Bitbucket
  • Experiences with Automation & Development including; Design, QA and Testing
  • Accurately defines complex problem statements, gathers and compares data about the problems and document the details
  • Prepares analysis report and seeks out all feasible alternatives
  • Prioritizes the alternatives and works out a plan for execution, determining the consequences of each alternative on stakeholders
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the decision's outcome in comparison to expected results from alternatives
  • Prepares an implementation plan for the problem
  • Collaborates with business owners and determines an optimal solution to stakeholders and senior management based on risk and cost
  • Prepares guidelines for application configuration and environment build out for new projects
  • Provides technical advice to management as new technologies emerge and evolve
  • Defines problem statement and expected outcome on resolution
  • Simplifies/decomposes the problem to smaller problems to reduce complexity
  • Troubleshoots complex issues, determines the root cause, provides solutions, and takes initiative to see the solution through
  • Verifies implementation and adjusts as necessary
  • Demonstrates knowledge of advanced systems, distributed computing architecture (client server, intranet/internet), h/w platforms, and resources - CPU, memory, virtualization, clustering and cloud computing
  • Configures systems and modifies settings to ensure proper functioning
  • Handles all implementations, rectifying gaps in instruction, and automating implementations and validation in most instances
  • Recommends improvements/best practices to developers and team members for seamless implementations and validations
  • Proactively looks for opportunity to harden processes/systems by means of audits, automation, and/or other measures
  • Reviews work products of others within the team
  • Documents solution and provides clarification and support to others

Qualifications:
  • 5+ Years managing a Server Fleet and overseeing automation
  • Hands on DevOps designing/writing/delivering system automation
  • PowerShell scripting for OS and compatible applications and services
  • Windows Server Operating Systems - 2008 - 2016
  • PowerShell, Active Directory, Chef, SCOM, SCCM
  • Standard protocols including DNS, SMTP, NTP, NetBIOS, SMB/CIFS, RPC, HTTP, and SSL
  • VMware ESX experience a plus
  • Experience with Remedy OR other Change Control Management Systems
  • MS SQL Server database experience a plus
  • SAN & NAS technology a plus
  • Knowledge of Azure, ADFS, and Office 365 technologies a plus
