The Job Details are as follows:


BAM is transforming our enterprise monitoring and alerting platform for the Global Infrastructure team. We are seeking a uniquely qualified engineer dedicated to bringing monitoring, alerting, and metric tracking and visualization to the next level. This is a technical role that requires advanced engineering experience in designing and implementing a cohesive monitoring strategy for all teams across network, on-site, and cloud infrastructure. The candidate will embody a mindset of continuous learning and process improvement.

As a Monitoring Engineer at BAM, you will be involved in:

  • Developing the monitoring strategy for all infrastructure related services at the firm:
    • On-premises and cloud platforms
    • Network and physical hardware devices in datacenters and remote offices
    • Server and VM level monitoring of OS and processes
  • Developing standards and documentation for base level monitoring and alerting required on all systems at the firm
  • Consistent evaluation of monitoring and alerting rules and targets to reduce alert fatigue and ensure key metrics are easily accessible
  • Delivering easy to digest dashboards containing differing levels of metrics and data for internal teams and customers
  • Providing subject matter expertise on monitoring summarization and reporting, especially during critical incidents
  • Working across teams to provide consulting on best practices for monitoring and alerting, including integration with application monitoring systems and removing duplicate metric collections
  • Monitoring and adjusting key infrastructure KPIs, SLOs, and SLAs to reflect changes in the environment
  • Managing vendor relationships with monitoring tool(s) providers
  • Implementing monitoring as code so changes can be easily audited and maintained
  • Identifying technology gaps and implementing appropriate solutions collaboratively
  • Providing off-hours and remote support when needed

To be considered a good technical fit, you must have:

  • Bachelors degree in computer science, management information systems, or similar technical discipline; or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years experience operating in a similar monitoring, operations, or site reliability engineering role
  • Expert knowledge of infrastructure monitoring tools, such as: Zabbix, Nagios, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Prometheus
  • Expert knowledge of dashboarding tools, such as Grafana
  • Strong knowledge of conveying monitoring data visually
  • Strong knowledge in Windows and/or Linux operating systems
  • Strong knowledge in PowerShell and/or Python
  • Strong knowledge in standard protocols (DNS/Mail/FTP/SSH, SNMP, etc)
  • Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals
  • Experience creating monitoring runbooks and playbooks, defining actionable next steps for any alerting

Bonus Points for:

  • Application performance monitoring (APM) solutions
  • Experience monitoring distributed systems, especially collecting and reporting on Golden Signals
  • Cloud Experience (Azure/AWS)
