About the Team: The mutual fund administration team is responsible for the oversight and administration of the William Blair pooled products, which include the William Blair Funds (registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940), the William Blair SICAVs (registered in Luxembourg as an undertaking for collective investments in transferable securities, or UCITS), and the William Blair Collective Investment Trust. In addition, the team oversees several Canadian trusts and Australian trusts as well as a number of funds formed as limited liability companies. As part of the oversight and administration of the pooled products, the team is responsible for the daily valuation of the underlying securities held within the funds and the calculation of the funds net asset value (NAV), the processing of fund expenses and maintenance of fund budgets, the validation of performance calculations and consolidation of data for daily metrics, the preparation of the annual and semiannual reports and prospectus updates, the review of quarterly marketing materials, the updating of fund websites, and the preparation of quarterly board materials. Job Summary & Responsibilities: Perform basic accounting and administration functions for a mutual fund. Calculate and track daily, monthly and quarterly mutual fund transactions for several funds, such as Net Asset Valuations (NAVs), return calculations, asset reconciliations, etc. Process expenses and vendor payments for the funds. Draft Board of Trustees materials, quarterly financial statements, as well as reports for mutual fund marketing and external reporting agencies.
  • Prepare review materials for daily Net Asset Valuations (NAVs) for mutual funds. Prepare and maintain a daily comparison to fund benchmarks and other metrics and disseminate on timely basis.
  • Review and report daily cash projections. Document large trades and resolve and discrepancies with fund administrator. Disseminate pertinent data to portfolio implementation and trading teams.
  • Prepare supporting documentation and schedules for the quarterly Fund Fact sheets. Review Fact Sheets for completeness and accuracy.
  • Process vendor payments, including intermediary payments for the funds and ensure fees are recorded appropriately on the general ledger accounting system. Review and analyze funds expense ratio calculations and monthly accruals.
  • Assist in preparing audit work papers and Board of Trustees materials. Prepare first draft of the funds quarterly financial statements, as well as data for mutual fund marketing and external reporting agencies. Complete financial reporting and tax reporting checklists and documentation.
  • Audit investment reports, cash statements, and supplemental reporting to verify that data is correctly posted and transactions properly classified. Investigate and resolve audit discrepancies.
  • Participate in other projects as directed by the teams manager.
  • Additional responsibilities as requested.
  • Bachelors Degree required; concentration in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years accounting experience (mutual fund or financial services industry preferred).
  • Understanding of basic accounting.
  • Strong PC literacy skills in a Windows environment with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Access and Word).
  • Ability to display consistently high attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with all levels of management.
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills and work ethic.
