Consultant Relations Manager

Wellington Management offers comprehensive investment management capabilities that span nearly all segments of the global capital markets. Our investment solutions, tailored to the unique return and risk objectives of institutional clients in more than 50 countries, draw on a robust body of proprietary research and a collaborative culture that encourages independent thought and healthy debate. As a private partnership, we believe our ownership structure fosters a long-term view that aligns our perspectives with those of our clients.

The position will report to the Director of Global Consultant Relations and will focus on developing and managing our relationships with the consultant community with a particular focus on top and mid-tier investment consulting firms in the mid-West.

Our consultant relationships play a critical role in building recognition of Wellington Management's investment expertise, in ultimate inclusion in investment manager searches, and in improved retention of common clients.

The position requires the ability to develop effective relationships with research and external field consultants, as well as other functional groups within Wellington Management.  In particular, the Consultant Relations Manager will work closely with many internal groups to ensure effective coverage at all levels of the consulting firms within his/her assigned territory.

Primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Work closely with Product Management (IPS), Portfolio Management, Business Development, and Relationship Management to establish an agenda that appropriately positions our firm, our capabilities, and products with each individual consulting firm.
  • Meet with consultant research staff and field consultants on a regular basis to develop their knowledge of the firm, our capabilities, and product strategies.
  • Orchestrate product rollouts, consultant marketing strategy initiatives and special projects related to the consultants.
  • Organize and host periodic consultant/client relationship reviews with key consultants and appropriate Wellington constituent groups.
  • Obtain regular feedback from consultants regarding the firm, our capabilities, strategies and industry trends and share broadly across the firm.
  • Participate in consultant, vendor and industry conferences.

The successful candidate will have at least eight to ten years of relevant industry experience, as well as significant investment depth and understanding of investment concepts and strategies across asset classes.

A CFA, MBA, or other advanced degree is strongly preferred.  Experience in the institutional consulting marketplace is also preferred.  Additionally, and perhaps most importantly, candidates must be team players and have the ability to partner effectively with colleagues.  Candidates must be effective and creative communicators, with strong writing skills.  Extensive travel is required.
