About this role

Are you interested in building innovative technology that shapes the financial markets? Do you like working at the speed of a startup, but want to solve some of the world’s most complex problems? Do you want to work with, and learn from, hands-on leaders in technology and finance?

At BlackRock, we are looking for technologists who like to innovate and solve complex problems. We recognize that strength comes from diversity, and will embrace your unique skills, curiosity, drive, and passion while giving you the opportunity to grow technically and as an individual.

With over USD $6 trillion of assets we have an exceptional responsibility: our technology empowers millions of investors to save for retirement, pay for college, buy a home and improve their financial wellbeing.

Being a developer at BlackRock means you get the best of both worlds: working for one of the most advanced financial companies and also being part of a software development team responsible for next generation technology and solutions.

YOU ARE:

  • Curious and eager to learn new things, with a healthy disrespect for the status quo
  • Willing to embrace work outside of your comfort zone, and open to guidance from others; you make mistakes, but learn from them
  • Passionate about technology, with personal ownership for the work you do
  • Data-focused, with an eye for the details that matter to solve the problem

WE ARE:

  • Passionate about building quality software and scaling technology to meet the needs of tomorrow
  • Building solutions for BlackRock and over 100 organizations who use our technology
  • Committed to open source, and contributing back to the community

As a business analyst, you will be responsible for working closely with our product management, internal operations teams, strategic projects staff and the Aladdin development teams to gather system requirements and document system specifications for new functionality, modifications to existing components and creation of data extracts for an integrated multi-currency record keeping, accounting and performance management system.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • You will work with internal teams and our business users to produce comprehensive requirements and detailed specifications for existing and new functionality.
  • Analyze enhancement requests, defects and other issues, translating them into professional specifications for review with product management and presentation to development teams.
  • Work with the accounting development, UX and implementation teams to resolve holistic solution including efficient workflows and user interface.
  • Assist the QA and UAT testing groups by providing direction & support for User Acceptance Testing, creation of test cases, and test plan creation.
  • Lead demonstrations with business, support, and training groups within the project for new and improved applications, communicate detailed descriptions of functionality changes and provide follow up support as required.
  • Work with legacy application teams in developing specifications and testing of data extracts and downstream data consumption.
  • Assist product management teams in maintaining a repository of enhancement requests, bugs and system workflows issues for prioritization and integration of product roadmaps and development projects.
  • Some travel may be required.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience with requirements capture and business analysis on technology projects for financial applications preferred.
  • Experience with accounting systems (mutual fund, tax, insurance, etc.).
  • Academic and/or practical experience accounting concepts such as double entry general ledger posting, lot relief methodologies, bond accruals and amortization is a strong plus.
  • Experience with JIRA, Confluence or development management products.
  • Technical and/or accounting degree or equivalent work experience is preferred.
