Role Value Proposition:
This position is responsible for supporting GAAP & STAT accounting and reporting related to Brighthouse Financial's investments in derivative instruments. The company uses derivatives to manage its exposures to changes in interest rates, foreign currency exchange rates, equity markets and credit risk across its diverse investment portfolio as well as hedging liabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with vendor and supporting management in ensuring GAAP and STAT accounting for multiple derivative instruments are implemented correctly
  • Responsible for supporting management with monthly review of derivative accounting to ensure completeness and accuracy
  • Responsible for designing reports for GAAP & STAT financial disclosures and ongoing review of quarterly/annual disclosures and management reports pertaining to derivatives
  • Responsible for developing reports for derivative analytics and supporting accurate and timely reporting for management
  • Maintain ongoing relationship with accounting vendor and support implementation of accounting & reporting for any new derivative instruments or new accounting pronouncements impacting derivatives
  • Respond to questions from external and internal auditors, front office and financial reporting teams regarding derivative reporting

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance
  • Completion of or progress towards CPA or MBA preferred
  • 5+ years of accounting experience in a public or private company environment is preferred
  • Working knowledge in GAAP or Statutory accounting and reporting is required
  • Previous experience working in derivative accounting and reporting
  • Strong organizational skills, proactive work style and ability to work on various issues at one time
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively work with professionals across the organization, with diverse backgrounds and experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Access) is preferred
