Description

Job Summary:

The primary role of the Raymond James Bank Assistant General Counsel is to provide legal advice, counsel and transactional support to senior management and business and functional leaders related to the consumer finance- related businesses, including residential mortgage lending and securities based lending . May lead major projects, programs or processes with significant business impact involving cross-functional teams. Influences strategic direction, develops tactical plans and completes complex assignments with substantial latitude for unreviewed actions or decisions. Provides comprehensive solutions to complex regulatory and transactional problems or needs and operates with a high level of autonomy. End results are evaluated for achieving goals and objectives. Extensive contact with internal customers, senior management and outside counsel is required to identify, research, analyze and resolves complex bank regulatory legal issues with significant impact. The Assistant General Counsel reports to the Raymond James Bank General Counsel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, assigns, and monitors bank regulatory project and transaction work as applicable related to the residential mortgage and securities based lending businesses, and leads the work of others.

  • Advises and coordinates with consumer lending business tasked with developing and implementing the Bank-s consumer lending and securities based lending capabilities and strategies; instructs and manages outside counsel engaged to assist such businesses;advise business on all litigation and collection matters relating to such businesses.Coaches and mentors others, including providing guidance and direction to a paralegal staff, as applicable and developing a regular program of continuing education and career development opportunities.

  • Interprets, applies and recommends changes to organizational policies and procedures.

  • Reviews progress of assignments with senior management.

  • Balances conflicting resource and priority demands.

  • Assists others in developing, preparing and presenting legal theories and strategies.

  • Provides bank regulatory advice, counsel, transactional support and recommendations to senior management on corporate action to ensure .

  • Prepares and delivers written and oral presentations to management and senior management on legal issues.

  • Maintains currency in consumer finance and banking laws and regulations applicable to Raymond James Bank and its consumer finance and related businesses, and advises the organization with respect to current or propsed rules and regulations..

  • Operates standard office equipment and uses required software applications.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Raymond James Bank General Counsel.


Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Advanced concepts, principles and practices of laws and regulations related to state and federal consumer finance and banking regulations including regulations of the FDIC, OCC, CFPB and other federal and state banking agencies impacting Raymond James Bank.

  • Advanced principles of banking and consumer finance and securities industry operations.

  • Skill in:

  • Managing a heavy volume of complex consumer finance and bank regulatory matters. .

  • Developing, preparing and presenting legal theories and strategies relating to complex consumer finance and bank regulatory matters.

  • Preparing and delivering written and oral presentations to senior management on legal issues.

  • Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications

    Ability to:

  • Interpret, apply and recommend changes to organizational policies and procedures.

  • Provide legal advice, counsel and recommendations to senior management on significant issues.

  • Balance conflicting resource and priority demands.

  • Partner with other functional areas to accomplish objectives.

  • Facilitate meetings, ensuring that all viewpoints, ideas and problems are addressed.

  • Gather information, identify linkages and trends and apply findings to assignments.

  • Read, interpret, analyze and apply complex legal information.

  • Interpret and apply policies and identify and recommend changes as appropriate.

  • Prioritize and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamically changing environment

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Handle stressful situations, a heavy diverse case load and provide a high level of customer service in a calm and professional manner.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization, including negotiating resources.

    Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate with excellent academic credentials and minium seven (7+) years of progressively responsible experience in relevant practice area(s).

  • Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.

    Licenses/Certifications:

  • Ability to obtain Authorized House Counsel.
