Global Business Operations & Technology Group, which includes GPS, Global Client Services, Global Accounting and Performance Services, Global Data Services, Aladdin Portfolio Services Group, Corporate Services and Technology Services, has ~4,100+ employees.

GPS Role: BlackRock has strategic relationships with dozens of key Provider Banks integral to our business operations. These institutions perform core fund accounting, asset custody, financial reporting, transfer agency and several trade operations services for BlackRock and our clients, critical to our daily operations. Our relationships with these Providers are long-term, are both strategically and operationally complex and are financially material to the firm’s overall performance. We work with many of the most significant Service Providers in the post-trade asset servicing industry.

GPS drives strategic alignment between BlackRock and Post Trade Partners through dynamic relationship and risk management. GPS is responsible for BlackRock's post-trade relationship strategy with our custodians, fund administrators and transfer agents. We craft strategic optionality and assure the delivery of high quality service at an attractive price.

The Role

We are looking for a career driven and standout colleague to join GPS as part of the Provider Risk Governance team. This group’s primary focus is the establishment and deployment of risk management strategies associated with key service providers. The group’s governance program will continue to grow and be applied to third party vendors within Business Operations, including index/market data, mutual fund distribution, real estate, and other market segments. You will run strategic initiatives in close partnership with our internal business partners to promote our risk management programs and drive provider service excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Key interface to provider senior management teams;
  • Work closely with post-trade providers to develop risk centric programs that protect our firm, funds, and clients;
  • Partner with teams across BlackRock to help ensure that provider risks are understood and are consistent with BlackRock objectives and risk methodologies;
  • Actively address systemic risks, utilizing significant metrics and holding providers accountable for service excellence;
  • Collaborate with the GPS relationship management team to drive RFP/ activity, along with KPI/SLA preparation and review;
  • Develop positive relationships with key BlackRock groups and leaders ensuring governance programs are fully understood and adopted;
  • Construct documents and presentations to be used with regulators, fund boards, and BlackRock’s risk constituents, presenting our program and associated findings;
  • Stay ahead of industry developments and ensure BlackRock is well positioned to use the scale of our business model;
  • Drive market intelligence, collaborate on industry white papers, etc.
  • Participate in Provider searches such as RFPs and RFIs;
  • Participate in cross functional working groups in the set up and creation of new products with a focus on provider risk profile and capabilities;

Key competencies required for success in this role include:

  • BS/BA degree in accounting, finance, economics or a related field. (advanced degree preferred)
  • 7+ years of relevant investment industry experience with emphasized focus on risk mitigation and/or business management activities
  • Banking or Securities or Investment Management experience within audit, regulatory compliance, enterprise-wide risk management, legal or business risk consulting desired.
  • You have professional depth and enthusiasm for technical strategy development.
  • Ability to identify and approach situations with a risk-based methodology and craft creative solutions.
  • Analytical ability to synthesize information and summarize issues. Attention to detail and ability to prioritize the most critical business issues.
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills. Intellectual ability and social skills to establish credibility with senior managers and their teams.
  • Results driven, with a high degree of self-motivation.
  • Inventive, dedicated teammate, able to work with people of all levels.
  • Ability to organize and handle several tasks in a professional, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong cross team relationship-building skills, capable of adapting style of communication to audiences of different technical knowledge and backgrounds
  • This role may require global business travel
